Always wondered about these CD-Rs--are these full CD resolution or just the mp3s ported to disc? That's a good question, I'm curious too. This will be my first one! It is full lossless made from the same master as any CD... just on a CD-R. I've got 8 Amazon CD-Rs and have had no problems with any of them.

I've never been much of a Beltrami fan. No dislike or anything, just that his style has never grabbed me and I don't find much of his stuff particularly memorable. For the record, I have on CD by him; Scream score CD (which i don't really care for) 3 Burials of Mexican Guy (some cool Goldsmith style scoring in here) Terminator 3 (quite like the main theme and some of the action licks) Flight Of The Phoenix (probably my fave by him, just for that great SATAN BUG style opening cue) Anyway, a mate passed me a copy of this score this week and I'm blown away!! To me, it's unlike anything I've ever heard by him. The Main Theme is instantly likeable and memorable. The rest of the score is pretty damn fine too! I will deffo be buying this, even on one of those CR-r thingiemejigs (I have no problems with Horner's KARATE KID or JNH's SALT CD's). Just thought I'd add my voice to the chorus of approval.

Jerry Goldsmith would be proud of his former student.

The first thing I must start off by saying is that you have never heard a Marco Beltrami like Soul Surfer. It is utter brilliance and so, so beautiful. Second, I hasten to add that currently (3/30/11) there is still no score release, so I am referring to the six audio samples available on Marco's website, total time approximately 19 minutes. These have just now become available making their world premiere I believe! And let me tell you, forget a second about the fact that I love all things Beltrami, trust me when I tell you that you are in for a treat when you listen to these cues. Truly something wholly fresh and different in tone than just about anything Marco's ever written. Angelic female vocals, beautiful lyrical and soaring string themes, terrifyingly menacing action/suspense music aided by deep-voiced Hawaiian male singers, native Hawaiian instruments and players, festive and joyous performances, wall-shattering pounding ethnic percussion...this one has it all. "Shark Attack" has got to be one of the most unbearably suspenseful (in the best possible way) cues this composer has ever penned and the instrumentation is just unbelievable. "Soul Surfer Main Title" is so heavenly you will think you are dreaming -- I defy you to listen to it and not get chills. Seriously...men, women, children of all ages, Beltrami-lovers, Beltrami-nonlovers...rush to hear these samples because they will blow you away!!! Marco Beltrami, known by me for his consistent ability to impress and mesmerize, has truly taken his game to a new and glorious level. It's good to be alive... http://www.marcobeltrami.com/audio.html So far, I'm only 3 tracks in, and the feel is totally different: It's like a new Beltrami. But it is amazing; it's got a triumphant feel to it, so different than all those horror scores (beautiful in their own regard, but like I say, differently so) that he composes. Man, I hope he gets to compose for more family-oriented movies more often, because I LOVE what I'm hearing in this CD. Onto track 4: Shark Attack...

Hey Ray, you should check out his DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK score. It's one of the best horror scores in years. Orchestral, inventive, thematic. It's a winner!

Gotta take a minute here to recognize my personal all-time favorite Beltrami score, The Invisible, which is one of the least known but utterly beautiful scores the man has ever written. I've seen the film and heard the entire score and it is truly a magnum opus and a feast of lushly written thematic orchestral writing. It is my favorite score by Beltrami, it is my favorite drama score, it is my favorite score by any composer. Now that the Soul Surfer score has proven immensely popular and appealing to many film score fans old and new, I once again wish The Invisible was available because if a person digs Soul Surfer it's quite likely they'll dig The Invisible, which in all of Beltrami's career is one of the closest companions because of its rich, passionate thematic structure and expression. They are quite dissimilar as well, The Invisible being much darker, but they both show the most similarity in their grand thematic structure. The Invisible has a pair of themes that are even more warm, addictive, and appealing as any in Soul Surfer, and I adore Soul Surfer. I've heard the labels are not interested in releasing The Invisible, but if anyone has a chance to listen to "Bedside" from Lokutus's audio page on his Beltrami site, you will know what I'm talking about...it's an 8-minute evolution and brilliant composition that builds to the most glorious and heavenly climax, complete with soaring strings and choir...the emotion and passion builds and builds over the course of the cue and by the time it hits the finale, all the stops are pulled out and it's one of the greatest experiences...ahh, soothes the soul I tell you! http://www.marco-beltrami.com/audio.htm
