Is this a one-off, or does this open the door to other expanded RCA LP releases of this vintage?

Loving the samples. Maybe It's me (and judging from a lot of the replies here it probably is) but I always find Elmer a bit hit or miss - some of his scores I love while others I find just don't do anything for me. This one definately grabs me.

In fact my newest order is a bit of an Elmer fest.

Summer and Smoke
Rampage
Fear Strikes Out / The Tin Star

Maybe I just need to stick these three on endless repeats and stop listening to these 80's and 90's composers wink

Thanks anyway for what sounds like a wonderful release.

Oh and congratulations on reaching 100 releases.

As will be explained in this thing I'll post on our site tomorrow - it's hit and miss. In this particular case, what we ultimately found out was that the RCA license expired in 1969. That was the best kind of news, obviously, but most of those deals were "perpetuity" which becomes problematic. In this case, the only thing that was problematic was getting RCA to return the tapes - that took quite a while because they had to review everything and they were very slow to do so - but in the end, everything came back and we had the best possible source to go from - the original three-track masters.

I really needed to try to spend no money on music this month. Oh well. Damn you and your small print runs, Kimmel! Ordered!

The samples sound fantastic! So much better than my old lp re-release.
Congratulations on number 100!

Congratulations on reaching the century mark in your releases and thank you for making this, among my favorites of EB's works, the capper. I raise a glass of cheer to you and this wonderful album! Bravo!

The Prelude track is now its proper length. Go listen - it's the main theme and one that has haunted me since I was thirteen years old - before I got the soundtrack album for some reason I bought an RCA 45 rpm record of the theme as played by Peter Nero. I played that damn record (which I still have) every day for heaven knows how many years. It's a beautiful cover of that theme - but the Elmer soundtrack puts all else to shame.

I knew this was coming and anticipated it with some relish. As a huge fan of Elmer Bernstein, I can't believe the explosion of treasures these past few months!

It was ordered without even hearing the sound samples. It's Elmer, it's Kritzerland, I already know it's going to sound great.

Tell you one thing - if this had been 1200 copies we'd be done smile Very pleased with the sales - in fact, it has now outsold Thelma & Louise in terms of orders at Kritzerland and that makes me very happy indeed.

Same here. I didn't listen to the sound samples until hours after I placed my order.

I listened to the Prologue, and was convinced after that. Added the special offer CD Kings Go Forth/The Pride and the Passion, and Fear Strikes Out/The Tin Star and Genghis Khan. Nice that this is selling well, Bruce. I'm glad that the interest in Bernstein titles seems to be picking up after all, and you definitely deserve it. Congratulations on your 100th title, too smile.

Ditto. Having now listened to the clips I'm certain this will be one of my absolutely, incontrovertibly indespensible Kritzerland titles, like ONE-EYED JACKS and TWO FOR THE SEE-SAW. (That's not to say that other Kritzerland releases are not wonderful and desirable, it's just that these are the ones they'll have to pry from my cold, dead fingers to get them away from me!)

I only listened to one or two samples and that was good enough for me. I just had to hear how good this was going to sound rather than wait for the CD smile

Just posted an article about the entire process of doing Summer and Smoke - for those who are interested in such things, it's under the "News" section of the Kritzerland site. But, here's a handy-dandy link directly to the article:

http://kritzerland.com/news.htm

And for those who are into musicals, or even those who aren't, you might want to check out our teaser trailer for Kritzerland's first web series, which premieres November 6th on You Tube. These are fully-produced episodes with some major theater and film actors and they're really fun. And just so you know we at least have a TV composer tie-in, the Outside The Box theme at the end of the trailer was written by Grant Geissman, composer of Two and a Half Men and Mike and Molly. The songs are by little ol' me and I write and direct the episodes. So, check out the teaser at:

Click on "subscribe" to subscribe to the official Outside The Box channel.

Excellent news, pleased it's selling so well. Not all is lost with pre 80's scores.

Bruce,
by the way,
given your affinity for Elmer and musicals...any possiblities to release stuff like "Merlin" or "How Now, Dow Jones" ?

How about schlepping over to Universal and release Elmers Award winning background score for Thoroughly modern Millie. OF gofor the actual soundtrack (never released ) from To Kill a Mockingbird.
