The filmography listed as a sidebar in the print edition of FSM was intentionally incomplete; I just wanted to list the more important scores in the composer's eyes, so one can always find a more complete listing elsewhere on the internet.

OFFICIAL PRE-ANNOUCEMENT : When Jose Benitez said he was working on it, he did not mean to release the album on Quartet, but he was helping us with some legal issues. We've just got the master tapes with amazing sound. We hope to release this score next year if we have fixed some serious legal issues with one of the co-producers. You know it takes time, a lot of time to make a project come true ! We do appreciate the film and the score as well. The film features some top-notch French actors and the music gives such a gloomy atmosphere. The screenplay is adapted from the novel by René-Victor Pilhes and closely refers to our present days ! Now it's time to make this French masterpiece available on CD !

It would be wonderful to have some info about the serious legal issues, to follow the release process, etc.

If one wants to get a real handle on the music of Richard Rodney Bennett, I would highly recommend his opera THE MINES OF SULPHUR (Chandos, CHSA 5036 (2)) which is strongly influenced by Benjamin Britten. Originally composed in three acts and 40 scenes, the Glimmerglass production was edited and recorded in a two-act version all with the composer's approval. James I have booked this Cd at the library and i expect to borrow it within the end of the year -- i hope for Xmas. Thanks for the suggestion !

I adore Bennett's work, but having listened to the YouTube clips, I am really in doubt whether to buy. This is a very tough and challenging listen. Will decide later. Sorry to hear that you don't care for L'Imprecateur's soundsculpture. It's best appreciated by ears accustomed to listening to 20th-century concert works more so than by soundtrack buffs expecting melody. I agree that L'Imprecateur is world apart from Bennett's better known soundtracks like the pastoral "Far From The Madding Crowd". Viewers who are familiar with Bennett's scores for Hammer Films ("The Nanny", "The Witches") and for Joseph Losey ("Secret Ceremony", "Figures In A Landscape"), which have never been on soundtracks, may likely be more receptive to Bennett's dissonant/atonal side. If one listens to contemporary classical music, one might sooner compare L'Imprecateur with a concert piece by Toru Takemitsu - like "A Flock Descends Upon The Pentagonal Garden" from 1977) - rather than a soundtrack album (say, Bennett's own "Equus" also from '77) Anyway, I'm very gald that it's in the works to be re-issued even if the audience for it may be small.

Many thanks for uploading the lp Anabel I was not familiar with this title loved every minute of it hope that Music Box Records can get it released. Have only just received Bennett's Lady Caroline Lamb from Quartet and it's one of the best scores I've picked up for some time very enjoyable. Thank you! However, and sadly, "Lady Caroline Lamb" does not seem very popular. In almost two years, we still have more than 500 copies of the 1000 pressings.
