I have put this on my SAE wish list, as I have the Varese SACD and I'm quite content with that for now. The Wolfen release plus a couple of other discs took the cash this time.

It'll be interesting to see how the SACD multi-track tracks and the equivalents from this release compare.

I'm obviously content with my Varese release, but this is a gem of a score -- one of the Goldsmiths I'm not selling.

Nice title for sure.

Wish Intrada would have tried their hand at a 24bit 6ch mix given we have so few high-res titles in the film score world.

It's in the basket...

You can't get higher praise than that, Ladies and Gentlemen! wink

Well as long as you're not throwing it in the garbage either....

I posted this question on the Intrada message board under the said title’s announcement thread.

From the announcement on the Intrada’s website, it said that the score was performed by the National Symphony Orchestra.

I do realize that this same orchestra is credited on the United Artists LP. However, considering that the location of the score’s recording was made at Anvil in England, as was his previous films done there, and given the fact that orchestra Goldsmith used at Anvil for these previous films, (The Omen, Boys from Brazil, and Alien) was the National Philharmonic Orchestra, I was wondering if it was possible that the people at UA Records made a mistake by naming the ensemble, the National Symphony Orchestra on the album.

If this were $24.95, I'd be leery of upgrading, but at a very nice $19.95, I'll probably end up double-dipping at some point. smile

As much as I like this score, I'm pretty content with the Varese.

I never had a problem with the Varese SACD. Playing it right now.
Too bad the Intrada isnt an SACD. Of course I'm always wrong!

The National Philharmonic Orchestra was a pick-up orchestra formed primarily for recording purposes consisting mostly of players contracted from the four major London orchestras. I suspect the National Symphony Orchestra is just an alternate name for the same ensemble.

There is a National Symphony Orchestra in the United States, based in Washington D.C.

The NPO was a session orchestra and had one of the best, if not the best 'fixers' in London. Sidney Sax contracted the best players regardless of orchestra to make up the NPO. Hence why the likes of Herrmann and Goldsmith used them.

They're undoubtedly responsible for some of the best performances of Goldsmith scores.

A really good stereo system displays how really bad the Varese version really sounds; like recorded in a distant cave, instruments missing etc.

Goldsmith is firing on all pistons with this score. Great stuff. I have the Memoir release but I'll go back to the well for the new cues.
