Why is it regardless of who I order them from, the jewel boxes on the larger sets are always crushed. Sitting here opening my mail while listen to my new FD Varese finds, I opened my La-La Land package and the POTA jewel case is crushed!! La-La Land even went to the extra steps, bubble mailer, extra bubble wrap around the cases and the USPS has decided to let an elephant step of the package!!!!! The back was so crushed it did damage the back insert. I was able to replace the case for now from a lessor score CD (will replace that later). Any chances of boxes in the future?

AT&T sent me a new HD DVR box to replace the refurbished one they gave me in December to replace the original when the hard drive failed...

So the UPS guy pulls up yesterday, I see the big box in his hands, and just like those nightmare Youtube videos, the dude stops 4 feet from the front porch and TOSSES THE BOX so that it lands with a clang on the concrete porch steps... roll eyes

Freakin' idiot...

Had an Elfman fest... POTA... Mars Attacks and Scrooged. Ordered one day/shipped the next. Very quick (as usual)... smile They will more than likely arrive mid-week.

Trust me... I know the feeling of "bad delivery"... our former person who delivered the mail would go up the first couple of stairs to the floor I live on... and throw (no matter the size) the package, usually hitting the door (sounding like a gun going off)... Fortunately they were taken off our route (too many complaints) and our new one is awesome.

Looking forward to the Elfman-fest. His title music for POTA is one of my favorites. smile

There has not been a single package delivered by UPS or FEDEX that has not been damaged to our home and even where I work. I have always stuck with USPS, but they are getting worse!

Video tape it. Some people did around holidays and got guy fired. He was just tossing packages at homes.

Is the Vivaldi performance in A Walk in the Clouds conducted by Jarre, or did they use an existing recording?

While we're on the topic of POTA - I'm still debating whether or not to get the expanded version.
I would like to know what exactly are the two Ape 'suites'? I am a fan of the score and played the original CD to death - but never got clarity as to what the 2 suites consist of cue-wise. Can anyone fill me in? Thanks in advance.

As far as I know they were written and recorded to flesh out the Sony album (the film wasn't finished at the time the album had to be finalized). A lot of the material does appear, one way or another, in the film. These two suites are one of the reasons why the Sony disc was a superb listening experience.

The CD for Apes was being prepared fairly early so Elfman was asked to just write some music to pad out the release. Late in the process Burton heard the second Ape suite and liked it so much he tracked it into the end battle in place of what Elfman wrote for that scene, which is still on the CD as "The Battle Begins".

Got "Apes" in the mail on Friday, and I'm excited to listen to it at work today - if I have time for the whole thing! smile Thanks LLL

Any more opinions on the expanded APES score? I'm considering picking it up today with HOOK. There's a surprising lack of discussion about the expansion.

I think the Apes expansion is great. PotA was never one of my favorite Elfman scores, but I see it in a much more positive light now that I've listened to the expansion a few times. The original album was mostly loud and percussive. The LLL release lets the material breathe quite a bit, and the softer moments are really very nice. The third disc is probably a coaster to most of us, but the set costs the same as most of LLL's 2-disc sets, so it's not really a problem.

Sorry if that didn't make a lot of sense, but for the price it's an excellent release.

I thought the expansion for Elfman's POTA was great. I was always a fan of this score. My only nitpick though is why they couldn't include the Rule the Planet remix that played during the end credits minus the dialogue. It doesn't make sense to put the one with the dialogue twice (one on the disc 2 and one on disc 3, which is the original 2001 release) on this set.

This version should've been on disc 2. But I guess you can't have everything. I'm still pleased and happy that LLLR did an expansion for this.

I ended up ordering PLANET yesterday, so I'll post my thoughts when it comes in, hopefully this weekend. After listening to the samples - and the stunning clarity of them - I decided to take the plunge.

I'm ordering only A WALK IN THE CLOUDS, I'm not fan of POTA

Speaking as someone who has never heard the 2001 soundtrack release, I'm really enjoying the complete PotA. As people have said before, it's allowed to breathe in-between it's moments of percussive carnage ("Calima" being the softer highlight). I have yet to see the point of the "alternate mix" bonus tracks (I've tried comparing the mixes but I can't seem to hear any major difference), though I guess it's a nice touch for completists. The highlight of the bonus tracks is the alternate version for "Preparing for Battle", an impressive cue with brutal brass and percussion. The percussion track from "Camp Raid" is quite fascinating for studying purposes. "Source Music Montage" and especially "Dinner Source" are very funny cues, ending the presentation on a surprisingly positive note. The only cue I haven't heard so far is the "Main Title Deconstruction" which is only available on the original soundtrack. I never bothered ripping the entire 3rd disc simply for that one cue, but from what I have gathered, it's something I can live without.

If you listen to the samples and find yourself really enjoying the main titles, then I suggest you buy it.

Highlight tracks: Main Titles, Deep Space Launch / New World / The Hunt, Thade Goes Ape, Calima, The Aftermath / Thade's Suite, Ape Suite #2, Preparing for Battle (alternate)

There's also an extended "The Hunt" on the original 2001 album (Disc 3). And the "Main Titles" is slightly different on Disc 3 as well. I guess it was altered for the album, but I can understand why you could do without 'em.
