To each it's own but what nut job is comparing some fly by night hack like moroder to GOLDSMITH,yeah right my grandmother sang better then Mario Lanza, and don't you know Bobby Murcer was a better hitter then Babe Ruth, how far can one stretch the statement to each one's own, as someone said last week, anybody can say anything but does that make it right.

Because people have different TASTE, goddammit. How hard can it be. There is no such thing as RIGHT and WRONG taste. Deal with it and move on.

I've never understood why particularly brilliant cues get left off album releases; the SCARFACE main title is a prime example of that. Why would you not include the title theme?
Music is pretty powerful and FULFILLING in and of itself (Sometimes, the CD score is priced higher than the DVD movie.). Maybe, by having the key cues, on a comprehensive OST release, will curtail ticket or home-video $ale$....since fans are already sated.
But not all soundtrack buyers are as hard-core as the ones reading this board (or that follow soundtracks as closely as WE do wink
Also ... Keeping key cues off may be pure marketing in a manner ST fans are familiar with -- e.g., put it on a spec. edition album, years after the orig. (limited/incomplete) OST hits the street. But this (time delay) can work to ST fans advantage: Internet-based fan feedback can (and does) tweak the (re)release. And makes ST collecting fun and interesting, if not $$.

Looks like a Varese CD is on the way for November.

Great news! I actually only have the 84 album on a CDR, so I will surely buy this. Of course hoping for additional material and good liner notes!

HF said on FB that he didn't know anything about the forthcoming Varese release...

Great-news. If there's extra material, not pop though, then it's a deal breaker, I have the original a solid release, i'll check this out, well done Varese, thanks.

Great! I guess it will happen then. But looks like Varese haven't talked to HF for the liner notes, which I find odd.

Don't look for this to be an expanded issue featuring the score. That's not Varese Sarabande's MO these days. (The rare exception being BAREFOOT IN THE PARK.)

A shame because I'm sure another label would have done this as an expanded score release if they had gotten to it first.

I do know there will be some 12" single mixes added but that's it.

Does this mean that you think (or possibly know) it'll simply be a reissue of the already existing soundtrack? In other words, no new Faltermeyer cuts? If true, that's a bummer.

Oh well, it's better than nothing. I don't even know how much score there is in the movie that is not on the album. Probably not too much. Haven't seen the film in years.

Perhaps, but I suspect there is more than has already been published. Too bad HF keeps getting overlooked and underused; he seems a more than willing participant.

Complete score or VA album reprint ?

Fuck, it's just a reprint:

Re-issue of the classic 1984 album including songs "Thief Of Hearts" by Melissa Manchester, "Tear Me Up" by Darwun Hastings and three more classic songs along with five score tracks by legendary composer Harold Faltermeyer.

Pass. Maybe I'd buy it if there was more HF. The music works a lot better with the movie than apart from it.

I think the music works like gangbusters on the album too.

Let's hope for some liner notes at least.

Seems like the release date is now December 8.

IMO, HF isn't on the same level as TD, Jan Hammer, Goblin/Simonetti, Frizzi or Carpenter.

I adore TD and Hammer. I don't know the works of Goblin/Simonetti/Frizzi at all. Carpenter is decent.

Now it's suddenly out tomorrow?!

And a picture of Running Man?

Geez, what a mess...
