Great clip on Black Rain. Hadn't seen that one before. It's from the documentary on the blu-ray.

this one IS worthy of its own thread. Personal opinion aside, couldn't the '80s version of Basil Wrathbone have at least waited until closer to the release date? There are a lot of people excited about the second Batman: The Animated Series release and none of them jumped the gun. Yeah, and you had to reply to this thread, with your highly needed bit of information, so it stayed even longer active? Genius.

This is a superb score which also happens to be hugely influential (it can be argued that it's the first real 'power anthem' score from Zimmer, with ethnic vibes). I love the original soundtrack, but I've always wanted to have a bit more than the 20 minutes. Yes, you heard that right -- here's a case where I condone an expansion! However, I was thinking more in the region of 40-50 minutes, rearranged for listening, not two fullblown C&C CD's. Still, if the set also includes the excellent songs, this might be a sweet set nonetheless. (oh, and I love the film too -- hugely underrated!).

Unless it's padded out with demos, outtakes etc. Disc 01 will more then likely be the complete score while I hope(!) Disc 02 contains the Original Album release remaster and yes, I wouldn't mind some "padding" alternates and things of the like what with there being 30 mins you could fill in with Disc 02 since the original album ran 50 mins.

Actually, that would probably kill this one for me, just as I lost all interest in STAR TREK: TMP once it suddenly required a third disc full of miscellaneous bits and pieces and novelty tracks. A second disc that's merely a cleanup of a disc that's already widely available and full of garbage songs and the score tracks that are also on Disc 1....much as BLACK RAIN could use expansion from the Virgin album, if I have to buy the Virgin again in order to get the expanded score I might well not bother.

Given the past releases that were sublicensed deals with other labels (i.e. BATMAN from WME and Warner Bros., STAR TREK: TMP from Sony Music and Paramount Pictures), you gotta realize that part of the deal is that the original album needs to be licensed from the original record label to get the score pieces that had been released, and then the rest of the score tracks are licensed from the studio. Given the cost of licensing (not the part I'm familiar with, admittedly) I believe that it just makes sense to license the full original album, and release that along with the new stuff. Just part of the business.

Sorry but you're ridiculous. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. The original album had a suite of music and that's it. I'd very quickly and easily pay $30 for the entire score. Very little of it was ever released.

Very little of it was ever released. Well, not really. If Disc 2 is the original album, then half the 2-disc set is redundant. I'm expected to buy something I've already got and by definition won't ever listen to - either because it's the worthless songs or it's the score tracks which are on the main disc anyway. I made an exception for STAR TREK 5 but really I'm getting annoyed with having to double and triple dip all the time. "You want the good stuff? Well, you have to buy the crappy stuff again as well." And the other thing is - yes, it's a BLACK RAIN expansion, but that's all it is. It's not vital and I can manage without it. Besides, we haven't seen the tracklist yet, and the songs might not be on there anyway.

From my presentation in Cordoba: - 2-disc limited edition soundtrack - Music composed by Hans Zimmer - Conducted and orchestrated by Shirley Walker - Includes the original soundtrack album - As well as bonus score tracks! If you're able to manage without it, then that makes one more copy available for those who are interested in the album and never got the old release.

Just curious Dan but do you know why this wasn't the case with Batman Returns? That one didn't have a third disc with the original album program... Yavar
