I've been listening to this non-stop, which is interesting considering I initially decided to pass on it after listening to the sound samples. But after a few days of going back and listening to the sample of "The Big Love Scene" I realized I couldn't get it out of my head. The construction of the love theme is very sophisticated, so much so that it took me several listens to really uncover all the subtle and intricate layerings. At first glance it seems like a very simple tune, but there's a lot going on in there.

Spinning this album again this morning and just wanted to bump the thread to state again what a treat it is that we have this Barry score on disc - thanks La La land! The themes in this score were instantly memorable for me, the tone and orchestral colors are sumptuous and I dig the source cues too! smile

Agree, totally! In a lifetime of his excellent scores/albums, this score doesn't rate that highly with me ... but that takes nothing away from the pleasure of listening to this wonderful score.

Still one of the most spun discs in my house — along with King Kong, Body Heat and Intrada's Black Hole disc.

Absolutely, plus the John Barry/Don Black mid 70s stage musical 'Billy'

All great recent releases of Bary's music and getting lots of play around here too. I hope it's not too long before we get another release as good as these.

Geoff mentioned 'Mike's Murder' and 'The White Buffalo'. I've been listening to them too and like both those scores. They just show how good Barry was at scoring drama, essential for any JB fan to have them. In fact, to have all of these scores.

...and a little sad this Barry popped up on my ipod the other day, on
the eve of the passing of Barry's daughter frown
RIP Kate Barry
