"and the hits he had at the time" sounds a lot more like Mancini than Herrmann. SHOT IN THE DARK would indeed be awesome, but pretty much any Mancini would be awesome (and I still hope someone is able to get WHO IS KILLING THE GREAT CHEFS OF EUROPE, one of his all-time best, on CD)
Roger confirmed the titles over at the Intrada boards
It's possible one of them could be Days of Wine and Roses by Henry Mancini and the other might be David Newman's Fire Birds. Two different scores...but you'd only know for sure if you showed up Monday.
Finally, The Days of Wine and Roses! One of my all-time favorite films. I'm positively ecstatic. Can't wait.
I must say I'm impressed by the wealth of Mancini releases recently. If you think that Mancini was practically ignored by the boutique labels at the beginning (Intrada's "Silver Streak" and "Mr. Hobbs" being pioneering releases!), the situation has drastically improved during the last few years. I can't say what the Mancini year 2014 has in store, but as far as I'm concerned, 2013 is already the Mancini year!

Has to be 'Days Of Wine And Roses'. Great release. I've put a Screen Archives order on hold until Tuesday!
The movie is a super silly Top Gun rip off where the bad guy called Staller doesn`t say one word in the whole film. But the score is FANTASTIC. Probably my favorite action score of the 90s. The heroic main title alone is so memorable. The action material that due to the low mix in the film is barely audible in the film is absolutely amazing. There is great militaristic stuff as well and very playful pizziccato passages in the score. Also the electronic cues are beautiful. Especially the memorable love theme. If someone thinks Newman can only do comedy, he should listen to Firebirds. Already my favorite release of 2013.
What do you think of the score for "Days of Wine and Roses"? How can you describe it? Can you compare it with another Mancini score from the same era? Thanks.
The Intrada home page describes the new releases as a two-fer from Fox and an action score. I don't understand why a lot of posters are so sure it's "Days Of Wine And Roses" since it was a Warner Bros. film. Nevertheless. I am hoping for a Mancini release. In the trailer, Jack Lemmon tauts the film strongly. It might have had something to do with the fact that his company, Jalem Productions, produced the film.

If you look at the date...that is the description for the last releases they did 2 weeks ago.

With Henry Mancini's 'Days Of Wine And Roses' looking vey likely next Monday here's a tribute to the film's director, Blake Edwards, who died in 2010, set to Andy William's vocal and a couple of intrumental versions of the theme from the film.
For 60s title it's most likely will be Mancini, but I (again!) still wait for Barry's Seance at Wet Afternoon. Why? 1) It's mostly unreleased score (only re-recorded theme & little suite) and 2) who will argue that Barry wasn't popular in 60s?
