If I order Heidi from Intrada (or another store online) how will I know if my order will ship, now that stock is getting low at Quartet? Does each reseller have their own allotment of CDs to sell?

Today I received my copy of "Fatti Di Gente Perbene". Sounds really great! I had the Cerberus LP for years, but I'm really glad I got this CD. Nice booklet too. Thanks a lot!
My Heidi arrived in the post today, just finished ripping it and started listening to it. Comparing the Main Titles between the Label X release and this, the new version is much clearer and louder. No longer sounds like listening through gauze.
Not that it means a whole lot, but bitrate wise (both ripped in ALAC), the new Main Title has a bit rate of 879kbps compared to 774kbps)
Just in case anyone missed the explanation for this...
Back when the original dialogue album was being prepared, several music cues were looped in places, in order to conform them to the length of the spoken text. The only music source that is known to survive was made AFTER this had been done, and so it contained about two minutes of looped material. The Label X CD did not correct for this, but Quartet has restored the affected cues to their proper length.
HEIDI Original Television Soundtrack Music Composed and Conducted by John Williams Limited edition of 1500 units
What a beautiful score, and I think an important one for Williams and anyone interested in his music. I have never seen the movie, and only heard the narrated LP a few times on a tape given to me years ago by a friend. The music on its own is a revelation, gorgeous and thrilling, romantic and full of life. Very grateful to Quartet for making this available.
Totally agree with dogplant here. This CD is a revelation! I have the Label X release but never played it that much, mainly due to the 'boxy, compressed' sound of it and some rather clunky edits. This release sounds great. Spacious and the music seems to play better here. I also seem to be hearing music I've not heard before. Maybe that's due to my not playing the other disc that much. Either way, this is a great JW score and very important to hear his musical development around that time. It's a nice bonus to have the narrated LP, although I doubt I will play it that much.
I remember the TV movie as I was watching the Jets play the Raiders and it was cut off. I was living in NYC and tried to call to protest. Then I settled down to watch the flick and loved it very much. The music was powerful and moving. I have the DVD now and also the score. Wonderful stuff.
I just gushed yesterday about what a spectacular experience the upgraded Rosewood was, then I got home last night to find the new Heidi CD had arrived and I'm over the moon on this one too!
Like many of us, I've had the previous version for years and loved it for the music but the sound was pretty lacking. I popped this in last night on my "main" system (my living room is wrapped in powerful surround) but wasn't expecting it to play like a whole new score. Of course, I was blown away. Really made me savor every note as if hearing it for the first time. As much as I cherish a mindful listening experience, we've all grown pretty accustomed to ripping this stuff onto our iPods and listening through headphones. One beautiful byproduct of all these upgraded releases is it gives us an excuse to sit down, with at least decent speakers, and let some of this wonderful music wash over you - the way we used to enjoy it.
If anyone is unsure about upgrading (at first I was, too) - all I can say is I'm so happy I grabbed this. It's almost like getting a new Williams release. Thanks Quartet!
Thanks for the kind words, jonnyquest! It's been extremely gratifying to see people discovering this beautiful and important score for the first time -- or finding new appreciation for it in this enhanced presentation. I'm told that there are not too many copies remaining at Quartet, so if anyone is on the fence, now is a good time to act!
Limited copies may still be available through secondary retailers. My internet is wonky at the moment, so it's been tough to check!
I've only myne self to blame. I was putting off ordering this for reasons unknown. I found a copy available at Intrada, but with my karma the cd is out of stock and just hadn't been updated to the site yet. At this point all I can say is a profanity. What comes to mind is that which senator Clay Davis used to say a lot on The Wire.
Also, my expression on my face in my avatar is just about right for this moment.
Well, Heidi is now sold out anywhere I check. It's too bad I missed the warning, but eh, I'll live. Goodness knows my to-listen-to stack is big enough anyways.
