Amazon just released this! I know what I'll be listening to all day!
EDIT: FUCK YOU AMAZON. They made a mistake in releasing it early, I guess, and in mid-transfer realized it and redirected my download to HTTYD the 1st.
Also not uncommon for the previews to be this disgustingly low bitrate trash with artifacts all over. I'll wait until I can preview it in some way closer to the quality of the recording.
Looks like the digital version released today. I wish this had the Amazon free rip Mp3 version with the purchase of the CD. Doesn't look like it does. But at least it's on Spotify, so I can listen to this at work today...
Downloaded from iTunes. Great new material. As before, Powell has channeled some great English composers for this score and it works beautifully. Very impressed with this sequel score.
My 20 something daughter is so excited about this movie release that she talks about it all the time. I am loving it. Seeing the little girl excitement in her eyes again is wonderful!
This score is great! Powell delivers an incredible sequel score, as good as the original. I can't listening to the "Stoick's Ship" track. Beautiful stuff!

I find it more interesting than the original because I like the mastering better on the second score. Plus enough re-use of the original themes mixed in with the new ones and I can safely just listen to this one. The choir is some of the best mixed in ages as far as balance with the orchestra.
Is this available anywhere else right now? Thought the release date was next week but I noticed Wal Mart has it in store today for $10. Their "exclusive" version comes in some horrible-won't-fit-on-your-CD-shelf digest magazine thing...
There is a lot of really virtuosic orchestral writing in this sequel score. Challenging parts for the players but I'm sure they had a ball with the orchestral fireworks that Powell authored. To me this sounds more like a classical work or should I say concert piece of a programmatic nature than a film score. I'm glad Powell took some time off as he clearly has developed an even more solid compositional prowess than he had before. I cannot think that this score was composed on keyboards and a DAW as the parts are so fluid and not awkward as can be evident from lines authored by performing them in line by line.
I must say that Powell for me is probably my favourite of the newer generation of film composers (ie post Silver Age). I dearly wish he had scored MOS as he's wonderfully adept at thematic writing and their development too.

Thumbs way up for this score.
Yeah. I hope one day he prepares a suite from the two films in the manner of composers such as Herrmann & JWilliams . ANd, hopefully records it! bruce
