I noticed that "Suspect" is available at iTunes. It is a long out of print score from him, and far from my favourite (no themes, but basically indistinct string suspense music similar to the less engaging portions of the Die Hard series).
In any case I had it only in LP as one of my first purchases and "updated" it to the digital version.
...and loving it! My favorite so far is ROBIN HOOD. What do you guys recommend?
I'm afraid that I like the idea of Michael Kamen more than the practice of listening to his music - at least on CD. I believe Band of Brothers to be his master work and can listen to that all day. I get distracted by the Beethoven and Sibelius in Die Hard/Harder and would like an extended LTK before being completely convinced by that score.
I want to hear more of his concert hall music, but if he conducted Finlandia I'm sorry to say that I found it to be drearily slow.
I like his persona and that he worked with our Kate* and was appalled when he died so prematurely, but I'll need to do a lot more listening before I can call him a consistent favourite.
I received my copy of "Shining Through" today and cannot wait to listen to the entire score. The main theme is lovely. I would not have connected with this gem if I had not happened upon this thread. Thanks!
Kamen is still a guy I miss DEARLY. Some of his more 'tranquil' stuff still gets me -
- the slower sax solos David Sanborn does with guitar background (not Clapton on Lethal Weapon, particularly the scene when Roger watches the videotape of the girl showering
- His rendition of the gun barrel sequence from Licence to Kill. Unnerving!
- 'Terrorists arrival' from Die Hard still an amazing work
- Robin Hood I still have fond memories of as I played it constantly when in college (even on the house system at the campus movie theater when patrons entered).
- and absolutely everything from Highlander, EVERYTHING. I would love an absolute COMPLETE soundtrack to this. The 'expanded' ones are still missing a lot.
Hey, Buddy!! I always loved the first two Lethal Weapon scores and Die Hard. I also really like Licence To Kill, which is badly in need of an expansion and remaster...
God do I miss this guy’s music. Was just playing DH2 yesterday... have listened to it a hundred times and I still uncover new things. I am really hoping we get a complete Three Musketeers, Hudson Hawk and Last Action Hero this year.
