Here's a little appetizer for the US folks (and others) from yesterday's concert in Berlin:

This is a picture of the Maestro from yesterday:

We're looking to have a gettogether, first a meal before the concert, possibly at Lawry's Carvery across from the Nokia Theater.

Then maybe the night before (Wednesday Mar. 19th) an impromptu gathering at my house, with Italian food.

This all depends on how much interest we get for both or either of them.

Any takers?

Nice he is coming back to New York. When he did in Late 2006 we thought maybe that was the last time. I saw all the preparations being done for the show but unfortunately I was not able to go, I had to go cross country. But I heard it was one hell of a show.

Yesterday's concert in Istanbul was cancelled for health reasons, after Morricone had conducted two earlier in the week from a chair, unable to stand. Hopefully just a temporary thing. I find it remarkable that a man of his age is doing all these concerts (and hope he comes back to the UK!)

This is kind of discouraging...we're only about 4 weeks away from his LA concert. I wish he didn't have such a heavy schedule in Europe before he comes to the US. He's done many concerts there and so few here. (And the last LA concert was cancelled). I heard a rumor he fell off the podium at a recent concert (unconfirmed...although his official site says he has a back injury).

Morricone's fall is no rumor, unfortunately!

http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=101936&forumID=1&archive=0

He did fell from the conductor's podium at the end of the Zurich concert. Various media reported about it. He needed help to get up again by people around him. Although he was able to conduct the encores afterwards it seems to me that the fall caused more pain than expected. I wish him well.

I had no idea about this. That's terrible. Hope he recovers quickly. I want to see him again in Dublin in December.

After that Zurich concert, he conducted two more - in Budapest and Vienna, where he was seated. Here's a vid from Budapest:

After all the dire reports he looks good, energy up.

And, as the Morricone board reports, now that he has cancelled Istanbul he has 4 weeks to recover from a marathon series of concerts for the US ones.

BTW I have seen Johnny Mandel, who looks a lot more frail, conduct by leaning against a chair for quite a few years now. I get a sense that after many years of conducting on isolated sound stages they get a charge from the audience response. They literally might be kept chugging along by these events. I can't think of a better way to spend your retirement years, getting patted on the back by thousands of people (that said you can overdo it).

Great news. I knew about Dublin but hadn't seen anything announcing London.

I was there in Zurich and saw him fall... it was quite a shock as he tried to get back up, but couldn't, until musicians from the orchestra came to help him. He then waved at the public who cheered and applauded him, went backstage and came back for 3 encores, despite the pain he must have felt.

I wish him lots of health and a full recovery... but he must get some rest now, he's had a very exhausting month with all this traveling and performances...

Hello,
It depends on what time you would like to meet. You can contact me directly at musicbyroy@aol.com if you like.
BTW, I have arranged some of Morricone's works for orchestra and concert band published by Alfred Music.

It looks like the upcoming US concerts have been postponed. I got this unfortunate email today:

"Dear Valued Fan,

The Ennio Morricone show scheduled for March 23rd at Cushman & Wakefield Theater at the Barclays Center has been postponed until Friday, June 13th, due to a back injury the artist recently suffered.

Maestro Morricone has undergone an operation to repair a slipped disc, and his doctor has advised him not to travel long distances in the immediate future to ensure a full recovery.

Your original tickets are still good and we look forward to seeing you there - enjoy the event!"

I hope the maestro recovers fully and enjoys his summer-ish trip to the States.

-Rex

As mentioned above POSTPONED to June 13th and 15th same venues, probably hopeful people will just keep their tickets and use them then.

And my guess is the LACMA Tarantino thing is totally cancelled unless they try to do the same thing with that.

Only good news comes from Morricone himself from his official website:

"Dear Friends, I am so sad to let you down, but having just had surgery on February 20, my doctors have given me strict instructions not to fly long distances in the immediate future to ensure a full recovery. I had hoped that they would change their minds, but I regret they have been insistent. I look forward to seeing you in June." Ennio Morricone, Rome.

That sounds optimistic and positive - and straight from the man!

Wow! Now THAT's a surprise! smile I think you'd sooner be waiting for Santa Claus to pull up on his sleigh at the Nokia than Ennio showing up, ever.

Ahhhh frown Very sad that I can't make it to the new date. It's very unfortunate for us who made travel plans, but I understand the issue (it's not like it was cancelled due to the lack of ticket sales).
