The Weinstein Company has issued an Oscar Promo for Alexandre Desplat's score to PHILOMENA.
The Oscar Promo CDR has 38 tracks, whereas the first-released Amazon Download only has 19 tracks.

Hmmm. Keep your eyes peeled for a copy on eBay.

There's already link to a streaming version on this thread. It only features slightly more music

Two copies have popped up so far on eBay and each has gone for about $300! Insane, especially as the content is on the FYC website in decent quality, and it's not all that different from the album.

Well, there are collectors and there are collectors. I have it and the score is presented very differently than in the download version, although the download version seems to have been mastered, and the promo doesn't. I have both and both are very different listening experiences. Since I like to have actual CDs, I'm happy to have the promo.

I'm suprised the Academy still sends out FYC promos. Some members of The Academy just sell them off for big bucks and then copies are available at certain sites at reasonable cost. Not as nice as an original but better than paying $300.

Excellent scoreā€¦ listening to it right now (the album version).

With all the onslaught of cd releases which have come out in the last couple of months, sometimes really good scores like this one can slip through the cracks. So I urge all Desplat fans and fans of delicate, intelligent and emotional film music to give it a try smile

The Academy has nothing to do with the FYC promos -- they're all produced and sent by the studios (which is why they're sometimes for scores that are not only ineligible but could never have been eligible, like Carter Burwell's O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU).

I saw the film tonight. Lovely score. I was really pleased I guessed it was Desplat even though I didn't know he was the composer before going into the cinema.

This all makes the absence of a CD or download for Desplat's "Renoir" so frustrating!

This score is only available online? Or is there any physical cd released?

Ouch... maybe with the nomination there is a cd release ala "Argo"

Argo was released on CD before any nomination.

That's a rather jolly cover, considering the rather tragic subject matter that the story covers. Makes me wonder about the tone of the film.

Since you apparently haven't seen the movie I can understand why you're confused about the cover. While the subject matter is indeed serious, there are many light-hearted moments in the movie as well as some very witty dialogue. The relationship between Philomena and Martin Sixsmith, the journalist who shares her story with the world, also has many lighter moments. Of the half dozen films I saw during the holidays Philomena was my favorite. And even though the Desplat score is far from groundbreaking, I love it. BTW, the main theme conveys a sense of whimsy, befitting of the cover. Now that I think about it, perhaps whimsical might be a better description than "jolly."

Yep, sadly I don't see this nomination having an impact on the commercial album being download-only. At least the nomination means the town will be flooded with CDs of the FYC album, since the few so far have been going for $300 on eBay.

I would love to get my hands on a FYC album - an actual CD.
