PS: I removed the '95 album listing.

Why would you do that? It's a perfectly valid release... This is why I find the concept of wikipedia flawed.

I wanted both listings there, because both albums are valid. But Wikipedia refused, so they're both gone.

I tried, and tried, and tried, to get Wikipedia to accept this here album's listing on the movie's page alongside the one for the 1995 album, but they have a dickheaded policy that song releases basically > score releases. I wish I was kidding.

"For collections of prerecorded songs, a track listing can be presented to identify the songs and their artists. The {{Track listing}} template can be used for this presentation. Track listings for film scores are generally discouraged since the score is usually composed by one person and the score's tracks are generic descriptions of scenes from the film. Noteworthy tracks from the film score can be identified and discussed in prose."

Wow, that is completely idiotic. Then again...Wikipedia.

Hoping my package arrives today.

Can anyone confirm which version of the trailer music is on there?
Is it the rerecording? Or the original piece?

It sounds identical to the McNeely Varese re-recording for HOLLYWOOD '95... And neither sounds like what you hear in this:

Although it's entirely electronic, I always thought the John Beal version sounded more like the actual trailer in terms of pace and Goldsmith's whirling synths:

First of all, the set sounds amazing, and I'm thrilled to have it.

But that said, I agree with Ryan: The trailer recording sounds utterly identical to the McNeely recording on HOLLYWOOD '95 and I have to believe that it is the same one. I would have been fine with that on some level, but the weird thing is that the liner notes contain specific information for when and where the Goldsmith trailer piece was recorded (Nov 1994 at Sony), and states that the recording is making its premiere on this release. Seems like some lines were crossed somewhere.

It's too bad, but still an utterly awesome release for all the great Silvestri material. And I had no idea that the score was recored twice, with two different orchestras! It will be interesting to compare them someday!

Oh shit, someone's in trouble. Once again, quality control takes a backseat. How can you mistake the McNeely one for Goldsmith's original? They sound nothing alike!

Major bummer. Major.
If this is an oversight, I hope there is a mixing bowl-type solution for this.
Frigg.

Well... it is composed by Jerry Goldsmith and it is the trailer music. I would have liked to see the original one included as well but honestly the re-recording sounds nice as well. So for me something of a non-issue. And if they can, just put the original trailer on one of their other upcoming Goldsmith releases (like FSM did with The Prize).

Seriously, how can people be such doormats? How can this be a non-issue? They clearly state in the press release that it's Goldsmith's own version, when it's clearly a recording made by a different label. Some of us have waited 20 years for an official version of this music.

We're investigating. The intent was to present Goldsmith's own recording of course. We didn't take this off the Varese CD, we had a master DAT for the trailer. We'll get to the bottom of this and fix address immediately.

Awesome. Thank you, Roger.

I know it might seem minor to some, but I adore that original piece.
I remember seeing that trailer over and over at the time of its release and each time noticing the music more and more to the point where if I saw the ad playing on tv, I would run over and crank up the volume - and I didn't even know it was Gokdsmith back then. I just loved that piece. It would be SO great if we could get it.
A download would be fine with me. Don't go repressing if you don't have to.

Lighten up, Francis. Listen to the real trailer music. I accept your apology.

Save your "quotes" and Almighty act for the poor sobs who take you seriously.

Very sad face :-(

This is, indeed, a highly sought-after recording and one of the highlights of this new release.

I hope a new disc can be prepared and pressed.

2 hours of Silvestri and we're all bitching about a 50 second Goldsmith cue that wasn't even in the film. A repressing would be extremely wasteful.

I respectfully disagree... after years of re-recordings (some good, some bad)... this is the last, best hope of preserving this recording. Intrada clearly intended to include it. For whatever reason, it was missed, and it needs to be fixed. And I have absolutely confidence that Intrada will do the right thing.

It may only be 50 seconds, but it's a critical part of this movie's musical history.
