As a huge fan of Williams and his work on the Superman movies, and as a fan of Zimmer, I honestly hope Zimmer does something completely different. The fact that they are revisiting many elements of the Superman mythos that have been previously explored in the movies and on Smallville, including Krypton before it blows up, and Kal-El/Clark growing up in Smallville, I would prefer Zimmer come up with something different rather than giving us variations on Williams' themes. To the extent they use any of the Williams themes, I hope it is similar to the way Arnold used the Bond theme in Casino Royale: a few teases here and there throughout the movie, and ending the film with the Williams Superman theme in all of its glory when Kal-El truly becomes Superman. But we will see. Or in this case, "hear" I guess.

And I've said it before and I'll say it again - anyone who slates Ottman's score has either not seen the movie, not heard it and are only basing their opinion on what others have said, or just completely misses the point. I've heard all the arguments. They are all wrong. As somebody who thought "Superman Returns" was a deadly dull and awful movie, I found the score serviceable at best. Just my opinion. But thank you for teaching me a new definition of the word "slate"! Is that a British term? I'm going to use it! It was probably "slander", wasn´t it? And having arguments for an opinion can´t be wrong. Having said that, I loved "Superman Returns" - the film and the score...

I'm very much in the "wait and see" camp. There are WAY worse composers than Zimmer. (Despite what you hear at FSM.) The man can write a catchy thematic score if he feels like it. He's not always all "Ooohhhhh, mooooooood" like his Batman scores. Would I have liked it to go to Powell? Sure. I don't WANT them to use Williams. (What I WANT is for Williams and Donner to have done Superman II. You know?) I want them to do their own thing. I watch Superman (1978) a LOT. (Although my daughter is now more into Thor so that has lessened a bit.) After this movie comes out I will still have Donner's Superman and I'll still have the Blue Box. If I come out of the theater wanting to throw on a cape and yell "Up, Up and Away!" they will have done their jobs.

If Zimmer's score for the new Superman film can combine the luxurious mysticism from The DaVinci Code and Angels & Demons... I totally agree on this combo. Love them both esp. A & D

And having arguments for an opinion can´t be wrong. If you're saying (reasonably) that my slating (sweet!) of "Superman Returns" should have been backed up with reasoning, fair enough. I just felt like my usual cranky negativity wouldn't really be an asset to this thread about a different film. Granted, I could have probably kept my mouth entirely shut. No, no, I was referring to the other poster saying that someone else is wrong because they don´t share his opinion.
