So the Jaws theme is just a note change? No, because the Jaws theme is a) notes put together to make musical sense - not chord changes, pad, or droning - and b) the theme is comprised of more than just its opening iconic notes. I like Mr. Zimmer occasionally and he certainly has written themes. I'm just not sure I heard any of them in either this film or Man of Steel, but then I don't hear many what I consider to be themes at all these days - and I assume that the smart-ass "directors" today like it that way. Music as part of the sound design. Not for me. John Williams knows what a theme is.

Now WHY couldn't Zimmer use a THEME and an ORCHESTRA on Man Of Steel???? Sigh There are 4 themes in the movie. Are you deaf? Each one blander than the other. Zimmer is a hack. He'll always be a hack.

I guess being an internet whipping boy is disappointing. But not too much, if you´re at the same time one of the richest and famous composers in constant demand by an industry those internet fanboys would love to be part if they only understood the actual work one has to deliver.

Holy sh** I am madly in love with this post! Well said, sir. There is a reason that Zimmer score threads get more negative comments than just about any other composer thread, and it has very little to do with listerners hearing the score with an open mind and offering up their resulting opinion...it has a lot more to do with an enduring competition to see who can slam him in the most "clever" way and who can somehow psychically predict how bad a Zimmer score can be before it's even released or when only miniscule sample clips have been revealed. For some inexplicable reason listeners who dislike or hate Zimmer sadly continue to populate these threads to relentlessly repeat the same negative, angry, holier-than-thou comments. I think maybe they like to surround themselves with similar-minded angry people who say basically the same thing, I think maybe it makes them feel better to trash a composer whenever possible because they think it makes them look evaluating and wisened somehow. Certainly there is room for honest evaluation and criticism but I think most would agree there is a difference between that type of post and a good deal of the others that litter these threads. Often I'm astounded by the arrogance of some of these extremely negative listeners who seem to think that while having one's own opinion is worthwhile and allowed that their singular opinion of Zimmer's music is the only way to see things, despite the fact that Zimmer is well-respected by his peers of professional musicians and composers on the global stage, is extremely successful and in demand, and has been working his craft for the past 30 years. But hell, push all that nonsense aside, there is no theme so the guy sucks! Rampantly silly. The bottom line is, if you do not like a composer or his/her methods or you do not agree with their place in modern film scoring, why continue to toss negativity repeatedly in these threads? Do you honestly have nothing better to do with your life?

No, because the Jaws theme is a) notes put together to make musical sense - not chord changes, pad, or droning - and b) the theme is comprised of more than just its opening iconic notes. Clark Kent's theme is none of those. Like Jaws, the theme is comprised of more than just the opening two notes. Just because a score lacks a theme (which Man Of Steel doesn't), doesn't automatically mean it works as sound design. There's more than just one way to score a film, y'know.

Do you honestly have nothing better to do with your life? The short answer to your last question is... no, they do not have anything better to do with their lives. This is why they post, then post again, then post again, then start their own thread, then continue to post in that thread any other thread that is even remotely associated with that composer. What they don't seem to understand is that music listeners here will form their own opinions on each score, and what anyone posts here will have little to no effect on those opinions. But they keep posting and posting and posting... the same stuff about every score!?!? They refer to their opinions as 'fact' and then tell anyone with a differing view that they are wrong. What is really sad is that they don't realize how stupid they look!

They're just turds in the swimming pool. Pay them no mind. Whoa, I totally don't agree with that! You are completely off base. Seriously, if there were turds in my swimming pool, I couldn't ignore them. How could anyone? This is why I don't go to public pools. What were we talking about again?
