bruce, if all these posters are really into golden age as i am, why not do a survey or ask about specific composers(eg.webb, sawtell, duning, tiomkin, young) and ask about what scores they would like to to see released and look into it so that people might be able to obtain them some day? thank you.

If people want to post their wants, I'm happy to make note of them. We're at the mercy of what actually exists, of course, but we have a lot of nice stuff coming.

I remembered my old Medallion vinyl (produced by Tony Thomas I believe) titled Far Horizons. Turns out that has only a 6 minute + suite from the film itself. Nice enough, but now I believe I may want to purchase the new Kritzerland CD, of course I'm also interested in the SECRET OF THE INCAS as well. And I'm not necessarily a Golden Ager. I just have enjoyed the Kritzerland releases. The last one I purchased was TOO LATE BLUES which was a world away from this new CD. Still both are in my listening room.

One of the joys of this disc, even before I receive it in the mail, is that it has pointed me to a Chuck Heston movie I have never heard of. Starting streaming it last night! :-)

One of the many pleasures of film music: I cannot count how many wonderful old films I might not have investigated had I not enjoyed the score when it was released.

Another recent example is THOSE CALLOWAYS.

I completely agree and as we're on a Kritzerland thread, thank you to Bruce for spurring me on to discover the following films. Laura, How Green Was My Valley, The Man Who Would be King and plenty more. They've all been enjoyed and a few are favourites now.

Just ordered the cd. Looks wonderful. It's been a long time since we had a new Hans Salter cd and we have very little for David Buttolph. The samples sound great. Again, thank you Bruce for all the great golden age cds and I look forward to what else you might do.

When I saw a new cd by HJS, I immediately thought of PNJ! smile

Preston, good to see you know what your initials are! smile

I am sure we both will enjoy this cd very much.

Hope you are doing well and continue to improve. These golden age cds are making us both feel younger. Remmeber, you are ONLY one year younger than I! ....... Peter big grin

Great release!

REALLY looking forward to this!

I too, am looking forward to hearing the score from SECRET OF THE INCAS. I only wish that it was a scene from SECRET OF THE INCAS on the cover of the disc instead of THE FAR HORIZONS. Surely there are far more fans of the INCA movie than the HORIZONS adventure flick?

Is it too late to change the cover?

No reverse cover on this one - no room - had to do the billing blocks on the back of the booklet - it's hard when there are two titles on one CD because the notes are longer.

I am always curious about this. How come some of your CD's have a billing block and others don't? I think all movie related CD's should always have a billing block somewhere. I know its water under the bridge, but for INCAS the bill block could have been included on the inside inlay with the back of the booklet devoted to the INCAS colorful poster art.

Anyhow, I greatly look forward to this release!

As long as I can do this you can all rest assured that my heart is in the Golden and Silver Age through the 1970s, with rare occasional forays into the 1980s for scores I like.

This is good news. I understand there are many 50s and 60s scores left to be released, and Kritzerland has the most interesting selection lately, but any chance of more French composers, especially for LPs released in the USA (Garvarentz, Lai, Delerue)? I have not much hope from any label other than Kritzerland and Music Box, but the latter has very few releases from the 50s or 60s. Universal Frane only have 2-3 releases each year now, and most of them are not the complete soundtracks.

Some studios require it, some don't. That simple. When there are two, and as many tracks as two scores have, putting them on the inlay won't work unless they're so small you wouldn't be able to read them - I've seen too small blocks and too small track listings - neither interest me - I like to actually be able to read everything. There are, of course, photos from both films.

Speaking of track listings, Bruce, I don't know if it has been mentioned before but you never have timings printed on your releases. It could be very helpful. The only Kritzerland release with track timings that comes to mind right now is "Love With The Proper Stranger/A Girl Named Tamiko". Is it an aesthetic decision (a more clean layout) or what?
Thanks in advance.

This has come up before and the answer I think was that Bruce doesn't like them. May I add my name to a plea for a re-consideration because I really like having timings and very much miss them when they are not there.

I like track timings, but I care even more about having detailed liner notes. Unfortunately something tells me Bruce won't change the way he does either. smile

Still, it's the music that counts the most, after all, and practically all of his albums sound great!

We offered to put the track timings on the website and people got really snarky about it so it didn't motivate me to do anything at all. As to detailed liner notes, that is in the eye of the beholder and no our style of liner notes will not be changing. Each label does its own thing - track analysis or even too much analysis of the music itself, not only bores me to tears (I never read that stuff in other booklets) but I think it actually does a disservice to the composer and the listener.

I don't think so, because it's considered a perfect learning tool for the enthusiast!

I only offer my opinion on these things - don't speak for everyone and I know there are people who like that sort of thing and I know just as many who don't because I get e-mail every day telling me that our approach is appreciated. Again, it's no biggie to put the track times on the website, but when I made that suggestion the snark was rather amazing to me.
