Re: After reading this post I decided to come clean and admit that I am, indeed, a racist. I have little tolerance for those who do things very quickly without thinking first, that speed is the most important thing. Everything has to be NOW, NOW, NOW!

Shouldn't there be a bit MORE racism in this sense these days?

-Ned

Ned, you are playing with a word, "racism," which is like playing with anti-semitism, and I don't think it is something one should make jokes about. And in this case, I think you actually meant to write that you AREN'T a race-IST in that you "...have little tolerance for those who do things very quickly without thinking first, that speed is the most important thing." Kidding around, calling people who may leap before they think as "racists" is kind of creepy -- donchathink? And I think that you actually meant the opposite, and if you had slowed down you might have avoided that mistake, in that you surely meant that there should be more ANTI-race-ISM, not more -- right??? Got that?

Incidentally, I just returned from spending 3 days in Helena Montana with my parents, both ailing, and rented what was like a one-bedroom apartment down the hall from them. While there, I played a lot of my music, and must say that I listened a lot to my 70 cue Dave Grusin playlist, with his "Cinemagic" CD, "The Firm," "On Golden Pond" (recently got it WITH the dialog), "The Champ," "Tootsie," "The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter," and "Three Days of the Condor," and never got bored with any of it. (Never bothered to put any of what he wrote for "The Graduate" on the playlist.) Wish he had spent more time composing film soundtracks than his jazz albums, although I have several of those too.

Well, the bizarre nature of this continued - first, the person apologized - not giving any reason, really, other than "I've been swindled before." I explained that what's happened to him before has nothing to do with us. Then he said he'd made his order on the 23rd - I went back and yes, he had made an order on the 23rd - my confusion was he also made an order two minutes before sending the e-mail - that order he didn't even reference. Strange. Then I checked and his order from the 23rd shipped on the 24th, so that's pretty damn good service if you ask me. I then asked him if he'd really placed the second order, since he seemed so agitated about the first. He said yes, and I told him that would ship on Monday. Nutty, but done.

I remember Lukas telling such stories 10 or 12 years ago.

Bruce, we film score fans are a rowdy and wild bunch! smile

haineshisway:

You are just learning what I've known for several decades, that there are some very troubled people out there. For years in the 1980s I worked in Circulation for the Los Angeles Times, and our job was merely to call new subscribers to make sure that (1) they had ordered the paper, and (2) had no problems with delivery. There were a lot of shifty phone solicitors who had misrepresented their offers and the subscribers blamed those of us calling them, and I never got so many horrible tongue lashings in my life. And even when I made it clear that I had nothing to do with placing the order and would correct all the problems, they continued to heap abuse on me. Jump ahead 15 years and I'm at a popular photo-sharing site called flickr.com, and I again ran into some extremely sick and vicious individuals. They're out there, and they may never rise to the level of what we regularly see on the nightly news, but it's inevitable we'll come across them from time to time. Best of luck in avoiding such problems in the future!

Can't wait for "Heaven Can Wait"!!!

Oh, I'm sure Bruce has dealt with more than his fair share of "challenging customers" (as we say in my line of work) over the years, both in and out of the soundtrack biz.

manderley: Surely that must be a joke? You KNOW that the CDs actually have a November delivery date, right? (Although they often may be shipped earlier.) I find the above, if it were written as anything other than a tongue-in-cheek joke, very chilling. And, if it is a joke, inappropriate.

I think he can help.

.....manderley: Surely that must be a joke? You KNOW that the CDs actually have a November delivery date, right? (Although they often may be shipped earlier.)

Ron.....the "klews" are:

1- The discussion and trend of the posts in the latter part of the thread and.....

2- Your own post, and then Josh Mitchell's, immediately preceding, and.....

3- The smilie face attached to "manderley's" post.

.....I find the above, if it were written as anything other than a tongue-in-cheek joke, very chilling.....

.....as well as unfocussed, demented, ungrammatical, mostly misspelled, over-the-top, and sophomoric, I'd say. smile ......It's also a paragraph (paragraph??---it's hard to tell! smile) which is time-consuming to write, difficult to construct, and offensive to the sensibilities if it doesn't come naturally to the writer! smile

smile smile

Ron, I really enjoy your posts and welcome your recent appearance in these FSM threads.

Anticipating your always interesting future posts on the Board, I hope you will come to understand that woven through our times of serious discussion is also a thread of fun and knowing frivolity in the material which surfaces from time to time and which comments on the sometimes ridiculous posts we see each day---helping to break up the often ongoing monotony of reading the same discussions, complaints, and fan-based adoration we encounter regularly.

I almost posted something prior to this about humor in our threads - it's very clear when the humor is real - we do occasionally get a couple of folks who love to soil our threads (although I believe that that has now ceased), but when Manderley does an obviously humorous post, it is funny and not inappropriate, because I like to keep the Kritzerland threads light and fun. It has been a constant from the beginning and I hope you'll get in the spirit because we all have a really good time doing it. smile

manderley:

I get it. But to some of us novices here, it can sometimes be a bit hard to tell the serious from the jests -- obviously you have a reputation as one of the Court Jesters here and I'll just have to take note of that. But sometimes this may sail over the heads of some of us, especially us in our 70s!!! Sorry if I over-reacted to something that, initially, seemed real to me. Reminds me of a fake letter I sent to a roommate in 1966 from someone claiming to be the mother of his unborn child -- it was SO outrageous that I never dreamed he would take it serious, but he did, which took the joke into, well, the twilight zone! Take care.

Manderley, just to be safe next time, include the following:

 By:   Ron Hardcastle   (Member)

ChristianKühn: I assume you're very familiar with manderley and his (or her) style of joking. But I'm not. And in the same region of that thread, the record label had just reported an angry complaint from an irate customer, and, frankly, I thought that that might be related to it. So there's no need to ridicule someone for being naively gullible. In my professional writing, I have a distinct self-deprecating humor, and, apart from the writing, also have an infectious sense of humor -- my best friends often break into wide grins when they see me, because they know what will surely follow when we are together. I was about to write that I just missed it this time, but actually I had suspected that it might be a joke, but it was so detailed that it just seemed more like a posting from a sick individual -- much like the customer the record company had just mentioned. So credit manderley for his (or her) success in the joke. [Since manderley doesn't give us one word about himself (or herself) in his (or her) profile, there's little way to tell.]
