I wonder how many of these albums are preferred not because they are really better presentations of the music but because they are what you knew for a long time and got used to.

No, sometimes the albums really were better, with perfect pacing and track selection. And other times they were just awful. And many fell at various points on the spectrum.

I've been putting off getting the FSM Frantic because the original vinyl is pretty much spot on for me, I'd probably feel the same way about an expanded version of The Thing.

I used to play the original release of Die Hard 2 a lot more than I play the expansion, and my fav track, Snowmobiles, is now stranded in the middle of a bigger track, so replicating a playlist isn't so straightforward.

But at the end of the day I prefer having more music to choose from, I'm sure I'll get to grips with the newer Die Hard 2 before long, and likewise will make the most of the expanded Morricone's when the time is right.

JAWS was the first thing that came to mind, and upon reading the thread I see it got a lot of mentions. The old MCA CD is a gem.
