I was happily reminded of the main theme from this score today (never played the soundtrack before), and then taken upon quite a Jerry journey. Tonight I finally go on the La La Land Enterprise, very psyched!

I still haven't cracked open my new copy of the LLL Star Trek the Motion Picture, and this is the reason. I'm definitely regretting not just getting the FSM and settling for the Rhino. This is a great score imo.

Yeah the FSM does sound much better I'm sorry to tell you. Rhino will do until you can get the other, though.

I confess I'm a little worried about you listening to TMP because you had such a strong dislike of Islands in the Stream due to it sounding like Ghost and Mrs. Muir at times...well, TMP has some V'Ger material that will definitely remind you of the beginning of Vertigo! I hope you won't hold it against Jerry too much.

I listened again to IITS and realized how harsh I was being. It's a fine score. I think I was having a bad day when I listened to it. In fact, I believe I'll give it a fourth listen tomorrow.

I tend to be a lot more forgiving (and smarter) than that, I'm pretty sure it was just a bad day. I got kind of vehement over something that didn't have everything to do with the album itself. I just needed a headphone listen.

Yeah, your extreme dislike of it really took me aback I must admit! I will say that the first time I heard it I was kinda bored. I expected something more monumental when I'd heard it was Jerry's own favorite out of his work. But its strength is in its intimacy. I think seeing the film would help you like it more.

I will say this, when it comes to Jerry even more than other great composers: if you don't like it at first, try try again. There are scores of his I didn't like at first that now I love. (Still working on some fan favorites like King Solomon's Mines and Total Recall...)

What tracks in IITS do you feel were especially inspired by what tracks in The Ghost and Mrs. Muir? I'm curious to compare.

I'll let you know when I give it the abovementioned extra spin. It's mostly motifs, and to be honest they actually made me smile the third time I listened. I'm glad I'm giving it more of a chance. I think I listened to Final Conflict before I listened to IITS the first time, so the juxtaposition might have also had a negative effect.

Was initiated into what is obviously not just a tremendous score but excellent presentation of said score.
