There are alot of other composers that should get their scores released before any more Goldsmith's are.

Don't get me wrong, I like Goldsmith as much as the next guy but 2009 was the year of Goldsmith...
Let 2010 be the year of another composer.wink

There´s plenty of 60´s unreleased Goldsmith´s. For example, General With Cockeyed Id. This sounds somehow familiar, does anyone remember has there ever been an official release?
Anything new from that era will do nicely....

All I have is one:

An expanded edition of OUTLAND featuring the complete recording of the score written for the final film. This recording would include such unreleased materials as the conch-wailing Main Title cue, the final showdown cue--supposedly written by Morton Stevens, and the replacement source music cues for the bar/rec. room scenes.

Yes, Morton Stevens did, in fact, compose the "final battle" cue for OUTLAND and I would love to see it included on a new, complete CD release...:-)

Sometimes these things are beyond the control of the label.....

Er, creating a foldout booklet giving you the choice between either album's cover art - in addition to the packaged cover art featuring both - is very doable.

The option of having appropriate cover art would have sealed the deal for keeping it. Oh well...?

Umm... I mean, the studio has to sign off on things, and sometimes has certain requirements that limit what the label can do. Even if the label WANTS to do it the way you describe, sometimes it's beyond the control of the label to do it in that manner. Capice?

I thought Goldsmith never wrote any music for "Babe"?

He wrote it - just never recorded it.

I was told by someone else in the know some of it was recorded.

Interesting. That's not what I heard from Goldsmith back in 2002, but maybe he just forgot.....?

Let me just say what I said in the similar Poledouris thread: I have no desire for any new Goldsmith releases, neither expansions or otherwise. However, there are a few already available soundtracks out there that I would love to check out and perhaps even own - STUDS LONIGAN, LONELY ARE THE BRAVE, LILIES OF THE FIELD, OUR MAN FLINT, CHINATOWN, ISLANDS IN THE STREAM, OMEN II, RUDY, MULAN and TIMELINE. In general, I need more CALM Goldsmith...I have far too much of his bombastic stuff, which I acquired when I was young and restless.

No. I've been involved in reissues and I never heard of a booklet staple requirement as opposed to an accordion foldout option. If that were the case, it's news to me.

Either way, my copy will be unloaded.

First off, who said anything about staples-vs-accordion layouts? Do you how absurd it would be to have a 24-page accordion foldout booklet? C'mon man.

And seeing as La-La Land was the first label to work with Paramount for unreleased archival releases (not "re-issues", as you mention above), any pre-existing requirements that you might have had with the studios you dealt with are certainly different than this particular situation. My point was that in THIS CASE it was BEYOND THE CONTROL OF THE LABEL. I don't know how many more times I can say that.

Since Intrada has a relationship with UMG, I wonder if they could release expanded albums of Treks IV and VI (or even together as a double album).

I thought the release of STAR TREK IV had all of the music from the movie on it already. I didn't think there was that much score to begin with...what is missing?

OnyaBirri... seriously? After several decades of waiting we're finally seeing our holy grails from the Paramount vaults being rescued by La-La Land and you insist on seeing a proper front cover being made for Seconds? I don't know about you, but my decisions on which soundtracks to buy and which soundtracks to pass on are based on the music contained within, not some fancy front cover artwork.

Then again, the things that some people decide to be nitpicky over have begun to surprise me less and less.

Nothing immediately comes to mind, though I think Rosenman wrote original music for a prologue that only appears in foreign prints of the film. It was just a thought. Of all the Trek soundtracks that need expansion, I should think IV is certainly on the bottom of the priority list. smile

Aesthetics, style and presentation are important to some of us. And yes, I'm selective about what I own and what I don't own. Especially at these prices. When you have a bad musical pairing combined with inappropriate cover art, there's not much reason to keep the disc.

If you or anyone else chooses to buy or to not buy things, you have your reasons. I don't criticize you.

My disappointment with this release will help someone obtain it after it sells out. I'm being helpful.

You told me they specified how the COVER ART had to look. You did not convey the studio's specification of what could or could not be included on every panel of the booklet or accordion fold-out. If they said, "There cannot be a page in the book featuring an image of 'Seconds,'" or "there cannot be a page in the book featuring an image of that dumb movie," then tell us so. You have only discussed the cover art, and beyond that you are talking in generalizations.

And regardless of the reasons behind them, the results are the same.

Either way, I'm unloading my copy.
