This definitely would detract from the realism of a scene — if it is realism that's being strived for. This sort of practice, which was much more common in the past than it is today, put the movie in its own little self-contained universe, which in some cases was the intended effect. This. And you can't forget the Life Day song Carrie Fisher sings in the Star Wars Holiday Special, set to the tune of Star Wars Theme. It's unclear if the music is playing as a radio source.
