I'm gonna give this flick the benefit of the doubt and reserve my opinion until I've actually seen it. The trailers actually look pretty sweet and I really enjoyed his last Die Hard score.
Ditto from me. I really liked his score from DH5 if you will, particularly the thundering opening credits, one of his best on that track. Concerning the movie, I loved the book and was initially dismayed when I heard they veered off from most of it, but the reviews have been mostly solid and there were a lot of post production problems and reshoots, which is usually not a good sign at all. But I will reserve opinion as well until I see it tomorrow morning.
I'd write a full reply about the best Beltrami scores, but I'd only be put to shame by DeputyRiley when he comes along and delivers his usual epic Beltrami essay full of his trademark infectious enthusiasm! Soul Surfer is an excellent place to start though (if not exactly representative of his body of work), I think it's probably his best score.
My favourites aside from that would probably be:
1. 3:10 to Yuma 2. In the Electric Mist 3. Knowing 4. the Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada 5. I, Robot 6. Hellboy 7. Blade II 8. Scream (and sequels) 9. The Omen
If you get into his style there are also some less popular but very interesting scores: Flight of the Phoenix, My Soul to Take, Max Payne (co-composed by Buck Sanders), The Thing. Actually looking at his imdb page they're almost all very interesting!

One of the biggest mysteries to me is actually why Beltrami fans are not legion. I like to think of myself as a one-man Beltrami legion.
Here's one thing to do: visit Beltrami's official site: http://www.marcobeltrami.com/ -- tons of samples under the "Credits" section. Also, check out Lokutus' page (http://www.marco-beltrami.com/) under audio samples -- go DIRECTLY to the INVISIBLE audio samples and listen to "Bedside" -- my pick for best thing Beltrami has ever written in his entire career.
I highly recommend the following. I will skip suggestions like The Invisible (one of my favorite Beltrami scores) because it is completely unavailable, and will keep the list to available releases (either CD or iTunes).

You already mentioned Soul Surfer which is one of his best without doubt.
Be sure to pencil in Wolverine when it is released July 30 on CD...and particularly keep an eye out for Snowpiercer if it is ever released (cross fingers)!

Deputy, surely you omit Flight of the Phoenix by mistake! Definitely in the top 3 of the dozen or so Beltramis I know.
It certainly is interesting, but just doesn't grab me like others. "Heat Dream" is pretty spectacular though, as is the bizarre and wonderfully quirky orchestrated opening cue.
Loved the movie! Despite a troubled production, this is a very entertaining summer popcorn flick. The audience was going nuts. I will definitely see it again. Just grabbed the iTunes score and listening on the walk home - keeping an eye out for Zombies!

Never too late! You joined the Beltrami party while the fire is at its hottest! Help spread the word about his musical genius. I strongly feel that a ton of other listerners and members here at FSM would absolutely love and respect his talent if they gave him more of chance; you are proof of that!
I've been trying to spread the Beltrami Gospel for years because I honestly think that if people really sat and listened to his music judged on its own merits and not necessarily on the films they accompany (although often they too are wonderful) they would be blown away and hooked.
I decline to comment on the rampant arguments on this forum concerning the state of film music but I strongly declare that what a lot of people are "missing" or "frustratedly seeking" from modern film music (originality, creativity, themes, strong orchestra) can be found in Beltrami's music in motherfrickin spades!

Totally agree. This looked like the one summer movie to avoid -- but I was thoroughly entertained and even my wife liked it. I think the hardcore gore crowd will be the ones that hate it...but I was surprised on every level. Even the score worked!
Seems like the movie is a huge hit at the B.O. - If THE WOLVERINE also hits big Beltrami might be up for a much bigger paycheck (and desevedly so). He definitely joined the ranks of my favorites.
