Peter, did Edwin contribute to this score too?

i´m really sorry to burst your bubble but ottman has been asked by singer for a modern, more nolan-like approach.it still has orchestra and choir and themes, but doesn´t use any of his previous ones, except for musical easter eggs.very dark score, lots of synth.

ok... time to cut all this crap that has nothing to do here anyway and focus on far more important things that all this accent bs that should be in non-film score discussion anyway if anywhere at all...

Wow.I dont remember Mystique being given more prominence than most of the X Men on an X Men poster before.Wonder why?

As for the score, hopefully Ottman dials back the choir for a change.

^^^^
I guess part of the reason is that Jennifer Laurence is popular right now.

It has some sense, since the film seems to be some kind of reboot and fix of the two timelines of the franchise, taking place between modern day and the 70's.

Edwin was a part of the musical team this time!! Should be a fun score.

My review of this, if anyone's interested:

I really didn't like Ottman's previous X-Men music and I know lots of people did; this sounds nothing like that, but still, if you disagreed with me about the last one then maybe you will this time too!

Is that really the final film poster artwork? It's dreadful... looks like something a fan whipped up in photoshop.

Chris

That's what one would call a cluster f*ck.

After seeing the film, I understand why people say it's a different Ottman score. It did feel like a different style, but it seems to fit within the film well. I think my favorite score moment was the main titles, where it plays Ottman's original X-Men 2 theme, but with instrumentation that feels right out of First Class (which makes sense, because of all the things DoFP is, it works mostly as a sequel to FC). Other than that, I noticed the part with Cerebro was nice, as well as Xavier's Hope theme. I'll be waiting for the score in a few weeks for a more in-depth listen.

Saw this last night and enjoyed it, but the music was sadly nondescript. I didn't really notice anything prominent other than the main title and the pop songs, truth be told.

But boy, that Quicksilver character is fun!

Just saw it today in XD 3D. Fun/good summer diversion. Ottman's best moments are in Main/End titles... I'm sure due to director/studio "requests". The most fun is how Ottman playfully tweaks Newman's iconic TCF Fanfare at end...wish that could be on CD but am not hopeful.

I don't think it is, but I sure enjoyed that!

I'm so happy that Ottman came back to do this score! I loved the reprisals of the X2 theme in the opening titles and closing credits (the credits music was fantastic!) as well as the beautiful 'hope' theme which made certain scenes very moving (notably the ending of the film).

An almost identical version is available on LLL's X2 expanded score

I liked the movie - not as good as First Class, IMO, but pretty good. I don't remember much of Ottman's score outside of the main titles, but man was I happy to hear those!

Drivingmissdaisy,
Do you have any more info about what track or scene necessitated that last minute scoring session for the film?

It was the opening action cue and both versions are on the soundtrack. Hope this helps smile

Loved how you enjoyed track 8!

For all the shameless plugging of "track 8," on its own, it sounds like a third-rate clone of John Powell. In the film, however, it's one of the only standout cues. I still don't like it, but at least it was doing SOMETHING noticeable in the film.
