But as it got louder and louder, I realized it was a monster roaring -- Godzilla! The roars (there were many, of various lengths) kept getting more ear-splitting. I drove around in a golf cart until I traced the sound to one of their New York streets (you've seen this one a lot -- it was Gotham in "Batman Returns"). A sound engineer had set up a huge speaker on a stand to play the roars, while another stood with a boom microphone recording it.
