I'm not even sure why this thread is still alive. Shouldn't it be closed now that this is no longer an issue?

What is no longer an issue?

A few years ago when I came here THOR mentioned to me to put all the stuff that deal with one topic on one thread. I told THOR back then I will oblige and do that. Now all my threads long or short[some very long] are just one thread. Very simple, we wouldn't have all these long discussions if you just create one loooooong thread. What is the big problem? peace.one more thing, THOR does in tactical manner makes the best point. It is annoying when one puts a thread on comes back a few hours later and it has been knock off the top board. That's why over a year ago I moderated my threads and listened to the wise man THOR and put everything on one thread.peace.

What is no longer an issue? That all the impromptu performances of film music done at the piano and many with voices are no longer, as some complained, "polluting" this thread. But I think that there were enough interesting points made on BOTH sides of the fence to justify keeping it going. I've gone back to posts from 3 years ago, which were never closed, and added valid follow-ups to them. Who knows? We may still be discussing these in 3 years.

But let me say this so there is no bias. I find SHEETMAN MUSIC venture very entertaining.

One final clarification:

For me, the issue is not about the value or quality of what smm and his merry band are doing, but simply about the practice (most vivid during its initial appearance on this board) of flooding the general discussion board with thread after thread after thread. I'm sure it's a wonderful, entertaining and worthwhile project, and I applaud that it's being done just for the love of the music. Clearly many here are very happy about what's being done with this music. I'm fine with all of that. I simply object to any project that floods the board with posts, especially when the same objective can be achieved without doing so. So one issue (value of effort) isn't an issue, and one (thread tsunami) may no longer be an issue in this case, but will become an issue again, at least for me, anytime it rears its ugly head in the future. Like it or lump it. Jerk or board patriot.

I'm with you on that 100%, Dana.

I just think these things are often blown way out of proportions, which is fascinating in itself; you know, the classic FSM DRAMA in full action. What started out as a brief *sigh* regarding a film score messageboard flooding (of all things) suddenly became a hotheaded discussion about human rights and whatnot. LOL! smile

What pisses folks off, Thor, is that anyone takes it upon himself to suggest people stop posting things they don't like.

It's EVERYone's board and not everybody likes the same things.

It's usually seen as being blown out proportion by those feigning innocence at meaning any harm.

Ron, I've never said anything negative about the contents of said posts, nor has anyone else, I believe. They could be about pot-smoking monkeys with funny hats for all I care. My only reaction was to the flooding of the board.

But if you can find any quote where I claim that people can't "post what they like", please let me know.

I think you see what you like to see here, Ron, and basically create more FSM DRAMA out of nothing.

Thor: That's a relief! Thank you. If you look ANYTHING like that "Heeeeeeeer's Johnnnnny" picture of Nicholson in "The Shining" on your avatar, we probably WON'T be bosom buddies anytime soon! Cheers!

Indeed, and it's "Standard Message Board Ettiquitte" to not flood. Imagine if five people bumped up a whole bunch of threads in the space of, say, five hours. All of a sudden there's a HUGE number of posts to get through most adding nothing but "bump" or "I love it!" or whatever. I too agree that the content of the posts are great (and the original ones were spread out just fine), but having them all lumped together like that is bas as this is supposed to be a communal message board.
