Spidey will be making an appearance and they're bringing back the theme from the Raimi movies (even more unlikely)

I'd call this most likely.

Tyler is the only Marvel composer to use someone else’s theme in his movie. He used Cap in Thor 2. (No, I’m not counting the Lonely Man in The Incredible Hulk.) So I could see him using Elfman’s music if Spidey made an appearance. I could also see Elfman getting credit for that on a poster.

If that happened, I could see Elfman getting a credit of course at the end titles, but not on the poster, not just for quoting themes.

But I DO hope that is the case, and that Elfman hasn't actually written any score for the movie.

I think it'll just be additional music - maybe due to a scheduling conflict with Tyler, or Whedon wanting something different from what Tyler was bringing.

Not sure that they'll introduce the new Spidey this soon after the deal is struck - casting hasn't even begun, after all, and the movie releases in three months.

I think Tyler has done a good job in the two Marvel scores he did previously, but I personally don't get as excited by Tyler music as I do by Elfman music, so this makes the score even more interesting to me.

So he's the only one except for the one you're not counting and the one you forgot? (Silvestri's theme was used in Winter Soldier)

Well, I'm not counting the Hulk because it didn't use a "Marvel" theme, if you follow me. And I'm not counting Winter soldier because it was tracked.

There is no way Elfman would get an additional music credit on a poster for an existing theme being used. No way at all. There could be an "Original Themes By" credit (though almost certainly not on a poster if it were simply the occasional quote -- unlike "Superman II" where nearly all the music is derived from another source). But it would not be "Additional Music By."

So whatever the reason, it seems certain that Elfman has composed new material for this film.

It was not tracked in Winter Soldier, they recorded a new cue...

Interesting.

Fair enough. But it's still (IIRC) music from Steve climbing the flag pole attached to "We did it" from the first film.

Wait, why do you hope that? It's the typical Marvel clusterfuck. At least this is the opposite problem we usually have, so now a more talented composer is writing additional music to replace music written by the younger, hipper option.

This movie should have been scored by Alan Silvestri from the beginning.

Im surprised Adam did not mention this in his earlier posts ... he seems to tell us everything else like when Brian Tyler needs to go to the toilet ...

Why should he? It's more Elfman-related than Tyler.

Because it's Elfman being called in to write music for a film that Tyler is supposed to be scoring.

It's not the first time Tyler's been linked with another composer, anyway (Constantine - maybe Tyler'll be conducting Elfman's music here like he did with Klaus Badelt).

Tyler had simply no time due his recording sessions for furious 7 to return for changes needed because of the editing and they hired elfman to finish the job.

Works for me. Between this and FANTASTIC FOUR, there are some fascinating soundtracks to look forward to this summer.

There's got to be more between the lines there, though. Tyler has a pretty big team working with him and I find it hard to believe that they couldn't have handled some revisions / changes under Tyler's supervision, especially since the themes and musical ideas ideas have already been established. So... Tyler's not available to patch things up, and plan B is that they bring in... One of the biggest (and presumably most expensive) composers working - and who sounds nothing like Tyler - in order to make a few changes and do some pick up cues? I don't buy that at all. You get someone like William Ross or John Debney or Conrad Pope to do something like that.

My uninformed guess is that DE was brought in to rescore music that pertains to a certain character or a certain type of scene... Ala Christopher Young in SPIDER-MAN 2, ironically. I guess we'll know in 8 weeks.

I think johnmullin has to be right.

Danny Elfman is not the guy you bring in to do "fill in" work. You bring him in for a creative contribution that you feel like you need. And by that same token, Elfman certainly doesn't need work so badly that he would participate if not to make his mark.

None of which is to say that Tyler did anything wrong. Until the film is put together, you're just guessing. It's quite possible he did exactly what was asked of him… and then they decided they needed something different and he was no longer available, or frustrated, or whatever.

But as johnmullin says, there are plenty of very capable, way less expensive composers who wouldn't need poster credit who could have done this. They chose Elfman for a reason.

I don't think the idea that Spider-Man will appear in the film is enough to result in an "Additional Music by" credit for Danny Elfman. His themes were in virtually every cue in SPIDER-MAN 3, and there he received an "Original Music Themes by" credit.

The other question will be; what kind of soundtrack album are we getting? Just Tyler or Tyler with some Elfman? Hell, maybe Elfman channeled his Oingo Boingo days and just wrote some funky tunes that will be on the inevitable song soundtrack.

I would imagine the soundtrack will be just Tyler, but who knows?
