No BAMBI..

BAMBI was released in 1942, so we just missed the 70th anniversary (2012) and 75 isn't coming until 2017, which is beyond the current release schedule. It's one of Disney's crown jewels so as long as this project is successful I would assume we'll get it. I certainly hope so. It's my favorite Golden Age animated score.

There are some great titles here, especially interested in the Menken expansions. Some of them I'm very curious as to what they are going to be doing in regards to an expansion. I thought Mary Poppins, and Fantasia were already released as complete versions. I would love to see a Legacy version of Beauty and the Beast and Tarzan.

Same here, especially in regards to The Little Mermaid and Pocahontas. With TLM, I wonder what bonus material will be included? We got a bunch on demos in the "Music Behind Behind the Magic" box set many years ago, so will those be included again this set? I'd prefer to have song instrumentals than already released demos. It will be nice to finally have Vanessa's song, as short as it was. With Pocahontas, will they include the deleted song and the film version of "Savages: Part 2"? Considering The Lion King will include "Morning Report," I expect the deleted song from Pocahontas will be included. It will be nice to have that as well. :-)

I'm surprised by the lack of buzz regarding the new LION KING release considering it is complete.

I'm enjoying my copy very much; the sound quality is top notch and hasn't been mastered too loudly.

But I wouldn't chuck away the original album just yet because this new release features a completely new mix, so if have been accustomed to sound of the original album, you're going to be in for quite a surprise...

Agreed. I'm really impressed with this release and it makes me anxious to see what else is in store for this series so I hope it sells well enough to continue. But the mix is completely different, especially the final score track in the finale. I haven't decided yet if I like it better or if I prefer the original. It's great to have the complete score and listening to it reminds me of what drew me to Zimmer's music in the first place. Definitely pick this one up!

I haven't decided yet if I like it better or if I prefer the original.!

I don't like these new mixes. At all ... But it seems like I'm the only one...

I find the original mixes much more powerful. Don't know exactly how to explain it. But where the original mixes have given me chills, the same pieces on these new ones just sound silly (or whatever) to me (from 1'43 in I Was Just Trying To Be Brave, to give one example).

While many instruments are more prominent (in places it makes it sound just weird ... like at 0'15 in Stampede), on other places they are almost gone (0'33-44 in Kings Of The Past) . Both solo instruments, and other things, like the brass...

And the choir, while I love choir, and probably have always said the more choir the better, I feel like in this case that the choir is way too much in the front... But this could be that I've always liked the more 'simple' aahh'ing choir over the "singing" choir... (don't like from 9'20 in The Rightful King at all...)

So I'm sticking with my precious original mixes, sorry Disney/Hans...

Regardless of mix, it's good to hear the sound is mastered sensibly. Too much dynamic compression would probably be a bigger compromise than just about any other technical decision, even mix, in a series intended for collectors. I'm glad they've apparently given that the right touch and hope it continues.

'The Lion King' sounds very nice. Great purchase.

I wonder if they will release 'The Rescuers' in 2017?

Judging from 2 of the 4 reviews on Amazon, the mastering is an issue as well. Typical Zimmer mastering of our current era.

There seems to be some REPLACEMENT of instruments - in the sense that the OST mix is full of synth instrumentation (someone on JWFan mentioned a synth flute on "This Land" being replaced by an acoustic flute in "We Are All Connected"), synth choir (as in the "aaaah"s mentioned above), etc. and this score has included live elements that have been previously unreleased.

Sounds great, in my opinion. I much prefer the sound and mix of this release to the previous OST release.

I'm not completely sold on the C&C of this, to be honest. I'm glad I have it, but it's probably not my preferred program of the two. There is a lot of added statements of the major themes (I don't know theme names, but there are two that are really repeated a lot on this - kind of a dramatic, more dangerous type of theme, and the triumphant, more emotional "This Land" theme) that lose a bit of their power in repitition for me.

I still need to get this. But one thing I have learned, Zimmer's Album suites are a lot better than what is actually written for the films. Unlike Williams and Horner where the C&C are often as good as if not better than their album versions.

I'll agree with that. Zimmer's albums are really well arranged on their own terms as music. Pop it in, play and enjoy.

It's not an issue. It is a little more louder than the original album but it's not to obnoxious pop music levels.

Agreed as well. After listening to the "complete" Batman Begins and Dark Knight scores, while the additional music was good, it was a horrid listening experience. The OST albums are a much better listen. I do like that Zimmer puts some thought into creating a listening experience for the CD soundtrack instead of just plonking the tracks on in film order.

Back to Lion King, I'm really interested in hearing it but as Amazon US has only just shipped my copy it's going to be 2-3 weeks before it arrives by which time this thread will be lost to the mists of time.
