Exactly. I actually never heard the connection until people here pointed it out, and even then I don't think it's that similar. After working on these clips, Randy's score has really grown on me. I don't prefer one over the other - just find it a fascinating "what could have been" scenario.
The biggest problem for me is that jingoistic main theme, which sounds to me like something Elmer Bernstein would have written as an over-the-top parody of patriotism.
I think Randy Newmans Score was really excellent. He really did a fine work. Perhaps the producers prefered a more patriotic and actionlasting score so the replaced him with Jerry Goldsmith/Joel McNeely. I think its always a disappointment for a composer when his work for a movie for some reasons is rejected. In the case of Randy Newmans Score for Air Force One I think its should be released one day as there should be released officially also as there should be released other rejected scores as Something Wicked This Way Comes (Georges Delerue). Resuming I only say that Randy Newman is really an excellent composer with very good scores.
This is amazing! It's such a great studying tool for anyone interested in film music.
Indeed, a very nice comparison/lesson. By the sound of it, Newman's version is spectacular..! However, when looking and listening it with the pictures, it just doesn't have the same stimulating effect that the replacement score has.
Take that Hijacking scène, which is a decent actionscène all by itself. With Newman it just stays decent, with Goldsmith it is nailbiting suspense. (Too bad the mix of the film pushes the score way in the back)
Any clue as to where the cue "Bridge" and "Hostages" might go in the score? I figured out that "Mother Russia" obviously goes before "Call To The White House" but "Bridge" and "Hostages" has me baffled. I'm trying to put it in film order so that's why I'm asking.

Hey there,
I haven't taken a crack at those yet. I'll probably start them over the weekend. If I can figure it out, I'll post it here. It seems like some scenes were half scored.
Alright no problem. I've got covers that are WIP (work in progress). Just waiting up on these last two cues to figure out their order for the film. Good luck.
I'd rather not post it publicly, but you're more than welcome to send me messages through my Youtube channel. I think you may need to create a Youtube profile to do so.
