It's also interesting to note that the Delerue site never made any mention of this release, though they mentioned all the Intradas and other legitimate releases.... That's because the Delerue site somehow thought they were "entitled" to own this. I was sent two really annoying letters "demanding" to know why I thought I could put this out as someone in France controlled the rights. I thought it was quite amusing, and wrote back and suggested to them they contact the actual rights holders with whom I had a signed contract and from whom I'd gotten the tapes. I then forwarded their e-mail directly to MGM and the person there had a rather strong conversation with them - that was the last we heard from them, needless to say. Just because you're the estate of a composer does not mean you own the rights to a title. They know that now Just keep telling the bluffing bums that they are wrong. They back down like weasels.

According to Colette Delerue, she wasn't a fan of this release because of the presentation, equating it to a salami: http://www.underscores.fr/index.php/2012/04/hommage-a-georges-delerue-entretiens-rencontre-avec-colette-delerue/ Approximate translation: "Are there things out to disk, not necessarily your initiative elsewhere, you regret that you were disappointed? Not with Stéphane anyway. But for example for The Man from Rio, who has been out for two or three years in the U.S., I did not like at all what they did, this kind of salami. And these American records where they really want to do everything all the time, I'm not always agree with that, but we do not ask me my opinion. " So I guess I can scratch off Kritzerland from my list of labels that could potentially release future Delerue titles. Kritzerland now joins Lalaland. Pity.

Question: How is Bruce's The Man from Rio like salami?? I thought it was a decent release. I don't understand.

She probably didn't think we needed to include all those extra tracks, but I thought they were fun and interesting - we know what "her" release was like - five tracks or whatever, three of them re-recorded. THAT's salami. She's upset, I think, because she wasn't in control - she didn't have those tapes in her cupboard because, guess what, she didn't have the RIGHTS. And I'm here to tell you if her beloved Stephane had released it it would have been exactly the same as ours, but probably not sequenced as well. That's my two centimes. The Salami.

Totally unrelated: Can someone please forward me the KR pdf for "That Man from Rio." It is no longer on the KR site - the link has been dead for over a year. :-| I like the KR pdf's very much; they are the only ones doing it that way. Very forward-looking organization, obviously, and this can be largely attributed to their leadership. :-D Same fsm id on aol. Hey, Lex - the link shouldn't be dead, I've alerted the web guy and hopefully by the end of the day it will be live again and you can download what you need.

So I guess I can scratch off Kritzerland from my list of labels that could potentially release future Delerue titles. Kritzerland now joins Lalaland. Pity. Hopefully not. Just because she wasn't keen on the presentation of one particular score (I love it by the way) hopefully won't stop future releases. Is she the rights holder by the way - does she have a say in what can be released? Surely she can't prefer the way Universal France treat her husbands fantastic works. She owns the rights to NOTHING. All she has are whatever George's tapes were that he happened to have. But they just do 'em. And yes, I don't think those scores have been treated particularly well because, guess what - he had no first generation copies because - he wasn't the rights' holder. The entitlement is amusing, however. She has a nice relationship going and I assume she makes some dough that she wouldn't make if anyone actually licensed FROM the rights' holders.

For me, personally, it is one of our finest releases and I cannot imagine it being better, either presentation or sound-wise. I'd put it in our top ten, frankly.

I honestly appreciate the bumping of this thread -- this CD always makes me smile and feel in good spirits -- and after the day I've had (and a ghastly week) this was a great reminder to go home and give this beaut a spin!

And last copy has been sold. I do have a few raw discs left - no packaging, but the disc as pressed - there was an overrun but no extra booklets - that happens occasionally.
