Given that it was his personal favourite score and he himself did the re-recording I'd think you ought to cherish it, whatever the performance or sound failings. The re-recording lacked the energy and failed to capture the freshness of the original score IMO. Is it because Goldsmith recorded it on the side (He recorded it again alongside Lionheart) or did he simply have too much time in between? I don't know but it's just not the same energy and performance. I never had any problem with the way it sounds and I love the artwork (I have the very first CD-release). But that doesn't mean I didn't order this new FSM release. I never knew the original recording and it sounds very good as well. It's the score by Goldsmith I enjoy most so I look forward to hear this in full and compare the two. Great atmospheric music, I can hear the waves crash and taste the salt, it's almost hypnotic. Great music! Nice to finally have the original on CD. I think the one thing we've learned about faux Bruce is that he has the sense of humor of a pistachio nut. No, it did not but from the Paramount mono track. It was part of a Paramount series of great works of literature that they offered Pioneer as a series and to that end I tried to do remixes for stereo wherever possible and do a music only track. This was around 1992 and Paramount still had the stereo music tapes for ISLANDS at that time.
