The BIG question everyone has forgotten to ask, though, is:

DOES IT INCLUDE THE DOLLY PARTON/KENNY ROGERS SONG??

It's worthless otherwise.

what sort of Goldsmith fan are you? Given that it was his personal favourite score and he himself did the re-recording I'd think you ought to cherish it, whatever the performance or sound failings.

The re-recording lacked the energy and failed to capture the freshness of the original score IMO. Is it because Goldsmith recorded it on the side (He recorded it again alongside Lionheart) or did he simply have too much time in between? I don't know but it's just not the same energy and performance.

I do agree with you that it's one of Goldsmith's best and now thanks to FSM we get the real deal.

I'll throw my name in as someone who'd appreciate an Intrada version if anyone is ready to discard theirs. I'd like to hear both versions to compare them myself

Odd that this apparently came out last month but no one mentioned it... confused Maybe it got lost amongst all the other releases?

It was just announced by SAE yesterday.

I've always loved the Intrada re-recording. I never had any problem with the way it sounds and I love the artwork (I have the very first CD-release). But that doesn't mean I didn't order this new FSM release. I never knew the original recording and it sounds very good as well. It's the score by Goldsmith I enjoy most so I look forward to hear this in full and compare the two. Great atmospheric music, I can hear the waves crash and taste the salt, it's almost hypnotic. Great music! Nice to finally have the original on CD. Well done all involved.

I'm a generous guy, but I'm not THAT generous. Sorry, mine shall go to THE SHELF OF OBSOLETE ISSUES.

I actually may keep it in The Tower of Goldsmith, on second thought.

Thanks Lukas, most certainly thanks Bruce, and, yes, thanks Paramount. What a great way to start out the year.

(And let's ALL send our Intrada versions to Thor!)

Thanks to Bruce for making it possible.
Thanks to Paramount for making it do-able

I supose you are entitled to your opinion. But the re recording does NOT lack energy. In fact I find it on par with the original.

I have deleted several posts that were starting to become a flame war.

It would be very disappointing if this thread had to be closed, especially as it is tied to the CD page.

Please behave yourselves. Thanks.

Lukas

Well, HE thinks it's funny, which is funny in itself. I think the one thing we've learned about faux Bruce is that he has the sense of humor of a pistachio nut. Actually, I once knew a very amusing pistachio nut, so maybe I'm insulting the pistachio nut.

But the release date is given as December 2009. Go figure, as they say...

Someone asked earlier if the ISO score on the laserdisc used bruce tapes.
No, it did not but from the Paramount mono track.
It was part of a Paramount series of great works of literature that they offered Pioneer as a series and to that end I tried to do remixes for stereo wherever possible and do a music only track.
This was around 1992 and Paramount still had the stereo music tapes for ISLANDS at that time. I ended up NOT remixing the film for stereo as we ran out of budget at that time.

I'm currently obsessed with the "Rozsa Box". I will interupt this fabulous listen when I receive this glorious Goldsmith masterwork.
