James, will you be able to make it to the T20 finals day this year? If we continue to play as well as we have been doing, we are in with a good chance of being champions this year.

Yeah, it's fantastic. Listened to it twice and ripped my favorite tracks this morning. Love those songs....but more so, "Gypsy Camp" is so wonderful it's one of those tracks that REALLY shows why "album programs" are really not always "done the best they can". I agree Tadlow's complete TARAS score is truly an amazing feat, score and songs. No one but James Fitzpatrick, Nic Raine and the City of Prague Philharmonic could have pulled this off as majestically. At the same time I am also impressed how Waxman brought everything together for a 45-minute LP programme, especially the LP version of the "The Battle of Dubno," which magnificently assembles the best action measures from "Opening Battle," "The Siege of Dubno," "The Battle of Dubno" and "Finale." The Prague musicians truly shine in "Gypsy Camp." And the whirlwind "Overture" takes your breath away. Pure Cossack fever. Other CDs have arrived unopened, and will remain so, as I can not get enough of this fabulous recording... at least until THE FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE arrives. And I agree with Bob: very often the most magical Tiomkin moments are the quiet, more subdued ones. That was also true of the Tadlow's recordings of GUNS OF NAVARONE and THE ALAMO: the hushed cues are the most haunting musically.

Taras Bulba is splendid! I haven't gotten to Villa Rides yet, but only because I keep listening to this over and over again. The entire score front to back plays wonderfully, with Waxman playing on so many different variations on his main themes that it never gets bogged down. The LP is a wonderful arrangement in its own right (particularly the Kritzerland remastering), but the grandeur of this performance and recording, as well as the high level of detail in every nook and cranny of Waxman's score make this new recording equally indispensable.

Here's an interesting comparison of Yul Brynner's, Brad Dexter's and Vladimir Sokoloff's performances in TARAS and MAGNIFICENT SEVEN. Brynner literally repeats dialogue and circumstances in TARAS that reappeared in SEVEN: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB7DFA24B15D8B0BB

If this CD doesn't make you want to pick up a huge spear and kill a whole bunch of Polish people while yelling out "Zaporozhtzi!!!" there's something seriously wrong with you, and you should seek immediate professional psychotherapy.

Your over-the-top reaction is unwarranted. First of all, Cossacks didn't use spears. Second, there is no need for such expressions of violence on this Forum. Third, if you truly feel this way, then you should seek immediate professional psychotherapy. Fourth, if you don't truly feel this way, please add a smiley-face to your post and apologize.

There was a winky-face next to the post, thus communicating its tongue-in-cheek nature. I will revise the post to make the Cossack weapon more historically accurate if it will make you feel any better. I can't believe somebody actually took that post seriously.

Just a question about Cantina Dance on Villa Rides.Compared to the ost it seems to be a different performance/arangement/version.On the original the trumpet comes in nearer to the beginning and seems to be more present.Just wondering, still a good disc tho' .
