Like I said earlier this year, Beltrami was not one of my favorite composers. Not that I disliked the guy, his music just didn't do much for me. But his score for the latest Die Hard-movie boasted some of the best action music I'd heard in a while, a perfect mix of Goldsmith and Kamen. And then 'World War Z' came along and I liked what I heard. But I saw 'The Wolverine' yesterday and all I can say is...wow! This is something else. I like it when a score surprises me in a movie and this was not your typical comic book hero-score. Sure, there's some great big orchestra stuff but it's full of little and intricate details and extremely well written and orchestrated. I ordered it the moment I came home together with 'World War Z' (which I think got a bit butchered in the movie). I am now really looking forward to 'Snowpiercer' and this composer is on my radar from now on.

Loved the movie. The score struggled to have its say. It always seems like these guys- composers- live in fear of standing out. You must be joking.

"Euthanasia" is a largely "quiet" track -- meaning you guys complain when music is "loud" but don't ever highlight when a composer chooses to provide a more melancholy approach That's a pity - I was hoping for something light and jaunty from this track I always think of my good pal Oblicno (Xebec on the first page of this thread) when I think of Beltrami. I'd not been much impressed, and in fact offered my copy of Watcher to anyone on the board who wanted it. Oblicno spoke up, and we started correspondence which resulted in me completely altering my view of Beltrami and becoming a fan. I'm looking forward to hearing this score from the detailed discussion of the music in this thread but suspect I'll have to wait for the bluray that my youngest will inevitably want for Christmas, she being a big X-Men fan. TG Dear TG, Would you like a copy of the score?

Dear TG, Would you like a copy of the score? Of course - but only above board! Don't want a broadside from Commodore Norrington... Are you in the US? I can Amazon Prime it to you in the next 48 to 56 hours.

Wow, the first 20 seconds of "Silver Samurai" sound straight out of a Scream score! Just noticed that. Same fluttering woodwinds, same whining highpitch strings, same tinkling percussion.
