Okay, now the reviews are more or less okay. It was expected that dePalma´s film would always be cited as an untouchable classic (very funny since on its release the critics were not so kind to it...)
But at least the remake seems to be positioned to bring in some good box office.
I really hope for Beltrami´s score to be released. I probably have made that abundantly clear already.
I was wondering how you found this because I regularly check Amazon by searching for "soundtrack" under both "Music" and "MP3" and still couldn't pull this up.
Good old Amazon filed the damn thing under "Classical."
THIS is why not having physical media in an actual store where you can look for things is so sad. If it weren't for someone posting it here, I'd have never known the score was available even as a download.
I actually found it by searching for "Beltrami" and "Carrie".
I am frustrated, however, because the download option on amazon for "Carrie" is also there on the British and the French Amazon website - but not the German one.
I hope this will not be a case of "Jurassic Park" (extended version) which was not available on the German sites either. Especially since I really adore those samples from "Carrie".
Playing now... and JUST WOW!!!! The finale is fucking incredible! I will post a few samples during next few minutes... it's quite impossible to pick just 3 cues ;-)
and just added fourth "hidden sample" since I just couldn't do without this one although it features murderous string motif heard also in Mommie Dearest (around the middle of that cue), here it is fully developed... hope you'll like those... I would of course like to include some others too, but since some of them were included on the official website it wasn't really necessary. Stunning score!
I just got back from the film. The score was mixed a bit low so I didn't really get a good taste for it. It was certainly not your usual Beltrami stuff but I wasn't really blown away either. Guess I'll have to listen to it again later to decide if I should buy it.
Incredible. Probably one of Beltrami´s best scores ever.
Nice!
Glad you and others are enjoying it so much. It really does kick ass. That the score is of such high quality and pleases fans so much in the year that also brought Wolverine, WWZ, Snowpiercer...well, that's saying something!
"Sue Gets an Idea" is my favorite cue...so much going on, so evocative.
OK, this seems like another completely useless remake but with good director on board and some interesting casting choices and now great composer also joining the project, this should be interesting. The movie is coming in mid October 2013.
Beltrami-FAIL!!!!!!
Just another collection of synth textures combined with an "orchestra", designed to give the PEOPLE of TODAY ......what they want.....
As for the movie-"Girls Don't Cry" director is helming this....
The deal is confirmed signed. Also Powell is fortunately taking a time off. There has been a plenty of posters (one also including Jodie Foster who was briefly in negotiations to play Carrie's mother, the role that went to Julianne Moore in the end). Not sure if any of them is actually official, since the movie is still 6+ months away from being released.
Jodie Foster would have been *perfect* if Margaret White had been a reformed *lesbian*.....due to her "encounter".....
I guess what this probably means is that the filmmakers want this one to sound like the other teen horror movies Beltrami's already done.
--Not that he isn't capable of scoring something different, of course. I hope he gets other chances to stretch.
On the other hand, suppose they let him try to emulate the score from the '76 version. Something more melodic, even romantic.
. . . Nah.
(What's the most-times-officially-remade movie in history, by the way? I'm guessing "Carrie" has quite a way to go still to top it, even if you count "Carrie 2" as a remake of sorts.)
I've been listening to the score on its own now since I couldn't judge it very well in the film. Damn theater had the music too quiet to hear most of the time. Though now I'm glad it was quiet. The guitar/synths used in the bigger cues do not really help the sound of the score.
Overall, it doesn't really pull me in with any of the thematic material and doesn't deviate enough from the usual horror score sound for me.
