Republic seems to be under Warners purview these days so not sure what can be done.

Really? Paramount licensee Olive Films seems to be releasing all of the Republic films that are making their way to disc.

You can go to google and type in: Who owns Republic Films?

Wikipedia has some good info too. Sort of seems Paramount has the rights in some way. It's confusing to me, maybe Bruce and others can sort it out. If Paramount does have the rights then maybe there is a chance for some Republic music cds.

Bruce, please read the Republic Pictures music library topic that Manderley just posted, and give your comments. Thanks.

I kind of wish there were more posts when people got the CDs and listened. There were some nice ones on Suzie Wong and it was really fun and interesting to read them.

In other news, we're hoping this will ship on Friday.

Bruce:

You were hoping the Waxman set was going ship last Wednesday the 14th. Did they?

Indeed they did. I live in LA County and just got mine this afternoon. It is spinning right now and is magnificent. Thank you Bruce and Lukas!

Good to know. I'm sure mine may be in my mailbox when I get home, along with my LLL order.

That was the hope, but the printing plant was behind and didn't get print to the pressing plant until Friday - they all shipped on Tuesday.

Has no one else got this cd yet? No comments? I just finished playing it and like it very much. I like Botany Bay the best maybe because it has the most music. A fine Waxman cd, hope there will be a vol. 2 with The Furies, Rope of Sand, etc.

Of course I got my cd so quickly because Bruce sent it by private jet! smile

Glad there are still some die hards left who truly appreciate the greats, of which Waxman was one of the greatest.

I can also mention that even though nothing is positive yet, I heard one test track of A Place in the Sun - very problematic source material, but what I heard was definitely acceptable and it was the worst of the tracks - so if everything can sound like that or better, the news just might be good.

Please keep us posted Bruce on A Place in the Sun. Hope it will make it to a cd.

This new Waxman looks fantastic, and what a great cover! Ordered! smile

Bruce, any chance you can do: Victor Young at Paramount ? Please think about it.

I promised to keep you posted so I shall - the news is good for A Place in the Sun - beyond my wildest expectations - we really thought this was completely hopeless a year ago. Now, thanks to the wizardry of Chris Malone the impossible has become possible - we have about forty-five minutes of it and it's amazing. We're going to decide what to do over the next few weeks - whether we want to find something to go with it, or whether forty-five minutes is enough for this classic film and score. That way we can save the other Waxman stuff that may be possible for a volume two of Waxman at Paramount. We shall see - but I'm listening to A Place in the Sun right now and it's just something to hear!

I just listened to a clip from A Place in the Sun on youtube, and good lord, it's gorgeous.

I also just placed an order for THE FAR HORIZONS/SECRET OF THE INCAS. They sure as hell don't make 'em like they used to.

Thanks, Bruce, for turning me on and on to these amazing Golden Age scores. "Ain't nothing like the real thing, baby..."

Viva la Kritzerland.

Amazing! A fantastic score I've longed for since I saw the film on television in, I'd guess, 1985. I'd contented myself with the various suites available, but this breakthrough you speak of is very exciting.

Is it simply new technology that has allowed this score to be resurrected? (I say "simply" like there's anything simple about it.)

Bruce, what is the source for Place in the Sun - at last look, Paramount didn't have 45 minutes left of the score.

At one point , they also had the mags 9in bad shape) of the original music for the final scene - Does that still exist and can it be included.

There is also a nice Victor Young score from Paramount, 1952 - September Affair.
Does that still exist ?

I was about to place an order for the Waxman CD and Inkas + All in Night's Work, but when entering my shipping destination, the screen showed horrendous shipping 25.5 USD for three CDs... Is this correct or some sort of a glitch? That just can't be right...

Looking very much forward to A Place in the Sun.

Wow! That's great news Bruce. A Place in the Sun is one of my favorite Waxman scores. So glad you were able to rescue it. Perhaps you could put with it a short Waxman score or a score that has little available music. I'm in a Waxman mood, just finished playing your Botany Bay. smile

My humble suggestion - 45 minutes is enough! "A Place in the Sun" needs no company on the silver disc - it's an Oscar winning score and a MAJOR discovery! Put it out alone, Bruce!

45 minutes is plenty in this case, IMO.
