End Game does have the "previously on" segment on the DVD and BluRays, I just checked. I was curious how they'd cut since the music continues over to the beginning of the episode, so a cut would be quite awkward. But it's not been cut. That explains why it was requested.

And just now I found something else. I had quite a few "Apocrypha" rips (from DVD and BR) on my eMule cue for a couple a days, and none had the intro (previously on). But today I checked one of the last that finished downloading yesterday. It was a HD quality WS rip (BR quality) and it had the intro on it! The file was named "The.x-files.s03e16.apocrypha.part.2.720p.web-dl.re-encode.mkv" in case you want to search out where it came from. By the sound of the file name with "web-dl.re-encode" I'm thinking the source is not a BR set but some online service.

As for other previously on intros, I don't recall any other that had music catching my interest so I'm satisfied if I can just get this one on some CD one day. However, I do know that the first parts in season 2-3 didn't have any previously on segment (i.e. Duane Barry, Colony, Nisei, Piper Maru). I don't have the other seasons on VHS anymore.

yeah the previously on segment for End Game is probably the best of them all. so essential to setting the tone of the episode and more seamlessly integrated into the show than most. the music is quite superb. it's really a shame more attention was not taken on a variety of things with this bluray box set. it's frustrating, with a number of things that make it tough to recapture that original viewing experience. fingers crossed this music does show up, especially is this set contains an unfinished business disc as la la land has set some precedent for on other sets previously.

Well, thanks to that precise reference given by A.C. I was able to find a spot on the internet a Google-click away that has an on-line preview of many of the episodes, and check their beginnings! There are indeed "previously on" segments on all the two/three-parters following "End Game"; none in "Ascension", none in the 1st parts, none in the one-episode mythology episodes. Here is the list with my appreciation for the music (the "?" was that I was able to find no preview):

End Game: new but similar to music in the episode (and transitions smoothly into the episode) - interesting!
The Blessing Way: heard during the episode (and transitions smoothly into the episode)
Paper Clip: heard during The Blessing Way
731: ?
Apocrypha: new - interesting!
Herrenvolk: heard during the episode
Terma: new but similar to the episode
Max: new but similar to the episode
Redux: new - interesting!
Redux II: new
Emily: new - interesting!
The Red and the Black: heard during the episode
The Beginning: new (includes clips from The End and Fight the Future)
Dreamland II: heard during Dreamland
Two Fathers: none?! (I remember one in the VHS, with clips going back as far as The Erlenmeyer Flask)
One Son: ?
The Sixth Extinction: new - interesting!
The Sixth Extinction II: new (?)
Closure: ?
Without: new but similar to music in the episode (slower version of action cue)
Per Manum: new (?) - interesting!
Deadalive: heard during the episode
Three Words: new (?) - interesting!
Essence: ?
Existence: new (?)
Nothing Important Happened Today II: ?
Provenance: new (?)

Now, these come from a recent HD version of the episodes, similar to the BluRays (same font for the credits, different from the original aired/VHS version). I don't own the BluRays yet, so if anyone does could they check whether these exist on the BluRays?

Too late, I know, to weigh in here ... but two I would love are ...some of the missing cues from Gethsemane ... especially when they trekked up the mountain ...

I also love cues, particularly during the beginning of the episode when the strange twins appear below the linesman who is stung by a bee while high on a telephone pole, from Herrenvolk ... I love the emotion of mystery the score for that scene evokes.

At any rate, I'm "on" for purchasing! Thank you for making more of this music available.

My guess for how Volume 3 will lay out:

-- Selections from episodes that have heretofore not had any music released from them on Discs 1 and 2
-- Unreleased sections from episodes that have been partially covered in Volumes 1 and 2 on Disc 3, a la Batman: The Animated Series Volume 4's Arkham Archives
-- and Season 10/the event series covered on Disc 4.

I'd prefer if all four discs were devoted to episodes that have not been covered at all (The X Files produced 202 episodes during its run), but I think LaLaLa will seek to appease everyone with this release.

Thoughts?

And what would you call an X Files Arkham Archives? My pick: Purity Control. (Only diehard conspiracy episode fans will get that one.)

If the 4th Cd is only for the last season, it would be a waste of space; the score for the 10th season was good, but not enough to fill a whole CD considering the amount of unreleased music from the "old" seasons.

I d love 3 dics from uncovered episodes, and the last one from fans' favourites AND season 10.

Well, we ll see. I m sure it will be great anyway! I m eagerly waiting for the tracklist... ^^

Didn't MV say something like the recent event series is handled completely different to the main series so I'm not expecting any music from that in this set.

Something like 3 discs of new episodes and then 1 revisiting previous episodes would do just fine smile

Either way, very much looking forward to this one.

Music from the first nine seasons is presented on this volume and they are all from episodes we haven't covered yet.

What we may end up doing next is a 2 disc set that covers odds and ends cues from episodes that were already released, kinda wrapping it up for the die hard fans who wanted this cue or that cue. Make a real limited edition of 1000 or 1500 units for the real hardcore X Files fans out there.

I'm super excited... just two weeks... oh wow... time to get out the first two volumes once again and get myself into the mood 'til the third set arrives smile

@MV: The Idea with the 2 disc set to "wrap it up" sounds great.

Let's wait to see, which tracks are covered on the third volume and then let us gather all "missing pieces" in a new thread bzw. via orodromeus (ww.eatthecorn.com) wink

Sounds a great idea. In the meantime got Vol 3 to look forward to and it's probably about time I give Vols 1 & 2 another listen.

Sounds great, MV. I'm totally in for this. If you do this, it would be awesome if you would solicit track requests from the fans as has been done for the Trek 50th set.

Cheers,
Chris
