Know I'm gonna get hell for this but I wish they reversed the roles of Holliday Grainger and Lily James. Holliday would have been a much better Cinderella IMHO.

I am not going to give you hell for this. Holliday Grainger is stunning. I would have been thrilled with either actress. I may catch hell for this, but I think the majority of Cinderella cineastes prefer a blonde princess. It seems we have a weakness for that. I could be wrong. As a female, I have no preference. My favorite thus far is Lesley Ann Warren. She was a stunning brunette in that role and is still lovely. I still remember waltzing around the house singing "Ten Minutes Ago" and sitting in my bedroom singing "In My Own Little Corner". Those were the days. smile

Since I'm a Disney animation fan my favorite will always be the cartoon variety made in 1950. wink The voice work was perfect. Ilene Woods was so endearing in the part. I really like The Slipper and the Rose, that is probably my second favorite. Then there's the *ahem* 1977 version. It really had great songs!

When I read this, I said "oh, I didn't know there was a 1977 release" and then I looked it up. Yuck!

Hee-hee! I discovered it on "Cinemax After Dark" in the 80's.

That is funny. After we got HBO, I wondered why my son was going to bed so early when he was in middle school. I did not catch the connection until I got up in the middle of the night and caught him watching the "adult" channel on HBO. My husband and I blocked the channels but thought it was a riot and very typical. I don't think he was watching Cinderella though. smile

Saw this yesterday with my daughter who just loved it. i kept waiting for the disney theme from the first animated movie to be played more, but it wasn't. I think the song is A dream is a wish your heart makes, but it comes in at the end credits.

Guilty as charged!

Well, looks like this family friendly version is going to do gangbusters this weekend. Good news for those that want an alternative to all the violent/action based films and for orchestra score fans.

Saw the film tonight and Doyle's score is great. Whimsical is the perfect word to describe it. It's very prominent in the mix and really has it's moments to shine in the film. My wife sat in the car on the way home humming the theme and that doesn't happen very often, so it's definitely memorable. I'm not surprised that it's doing so well this weekend. It's a nice change of pace.

It's a good score for sure. My favorite Doyle was always "Much Ado About Nothing," and it's pretty amazing after 20+ years to see him return so confidently to that territory. Parts of it are a little too lush and cloying for my taste, but it is a kids movie after all. There are some really nice thematic moments. (However, the little song that Cinderella sings from the window near the end is not on the CD, and it struck me as a Doyle song in the "Sigh No More, Ladies" mold.)

Saw this with my wife - she loved it, and I enjoyed it very much. So did the packed cinema.

Doyle´s score works wonders, and Branagh´s direction is excellent.

Wouldn´t have thought this after the lackluster trailer.

I thought it was a Doyle composition too, but turns out it's a folk song:

Here's a nice recording:

The tune is woven throughout the score. I agree, shame the version from the film isn't on the album.

Just like you know you are getting the best Silvestri from a Zemeckis film or the best Elfman from a Burton film, you know Patrick Doyle is giving his best to a Branagh film. But this is the deluxe delivery, possibly because Branagh, given all the expectations from the material, manages a wonderful rendering with standout performances from Kate Blanchett and Helena Bonham Carter. BTW stay through the credits for those bonus "songs",

I remember the Burl Ives version! Cool they included this in the film. Hope they make the Cinderella version available via download or something. I'm curious to hear it.

Now I know why I love film music! I just arrived home from seeing Cinderella. I can honestly say I loved every moment of it. Patrick Doyle's score takes your hand from the very moment the film begins and does not release it until the end credits begin. It not only takes your hand but grabs your heart as well. The score was lovely, searing and delightful in all the right places. The main theme, which I knew by heart before I saw the movie has become more memorable to me now that I have seen the way it was woven throughout the film.

Lily James was perfect for the role. I had previously said here that I would have been happy if either Lily James or Holliday Grainger had played Cinderella. I have definitely changed my mind. Lily James plays the role with a soft and lovely elegance that is very believable. Holliday Grainger is wonderful as the bombastic and foolish Anastasia.

The costumes were lush and wonderful and the scenery is breathtaking. The special effects are wonderful and not over the top. The teeny tiny issue that I wish were a bit different was the scene where Cinderella and the Prince have their first dance. It might have been where I was sitting or truly could be my eyesight but I found the scene to be a bit fuzzy and off focus. The dancing itself was wonderful but the camera angle at times seemed a bit off. However, this took nothing away from the film. I cannot wait to see it again.....

Haven't seen the film, probably won't until it reaches cable television but I have to say the score has grown on me a lot. I can just picture everything you are describing from the music alone. There's a great deal of complexity in the orchestration if you listen carefully, and it's one of the most magical sounding scores Ive heard in a long time. The brilliance is, it's not overstated.

Based on promo's Lily James is warming up to me as well. She seems so delicate and graceful, just as I pictured Cinderella would be.

What a beautiful ,beautiful score! Romance, magic and just pure beauty, it has it all. His score for Jack Ryan ended at the very bottom of my list last year but this one will be way up high. Is it just me or does his main Cinderella theme has a bit of McNeeley's Tinkerbell? Anyway, thumbs up for Doyle. Good to see him and Horner (for the brilliant 'Wolf Totem') back in such great form.

Charted at 60 on the Billboard 200 and it keeps increasing on Amazon and iTunes.

I am playing it now. Can you say obsessed? This may have already been pointed out but I notice the Amazon UK digital version features the 33 tracks like the iTunes version. The Amazon US digital version sadly does not. This does not make sense to me.

Have to agree with edw about the movie. It was a lavish production. Absolutely gorgeous and very heartfelt. I thought Lilly James was wonderful. I can't say Madden's prince did a lot for me, but he had nice teeth.

The music was perfect and sublime!!

Just received my copy. Outstanding score. First-rate Doyle and a worthy companion to all his scores for Branagh.

Unusually well-recorded as well.
