The Main Title and the End Title are directly lifted from Prokokiev's CANTATA FOR THE OCTOBER REVOLUTION (more specifically from The Philosophers).

I saw the movie in French when it was first released in 1988. The title was DOUBLE DÉTENTE and it turned out to be very clever in retrospect. At first, it just seems to be a reference to political 'detente', but it also refers to double triggers. Clever... and unexpectedly so for a Hollywood flick.

Folks, do yourself a favour and get your mitts on this work fraught with beauty, mystery and a no small dose of weirdness. Nino Rota composed a work that has inspired film composers far and wide as well as some of the Hollywood luminaries such as Danny Elfman and James Horner.

Thor, with your love of Elfman, you surely would enjoy this bizarre and haunting work.

Thanks for the recommendation, A&S. I'm familiar with a fair share of Rota/Fellini, but don't think I've sampled that.

Decided I wasn't getting any younger and it was time to crack this set open.

Some amazing stuff to be heard on this disc. Music. Written by a real composer. There is a cue called 'Pierrot' that could have come directly from the concert hall. Amazing I tell ya!

Up next:

Edit: Nice score with many Herrmannesque touches. Could do with better artwork, better booklet and better film though big grin
