Please get over yourselves. Book publishing is not an exact science, and is even more prone to delays when you don't have big money to push things through. The good people behind this project include Lukas Kendall, who has likely enabled many of your most prized CDs to reach your shelf (with booklets that are themselves mini-books), let alone granted you the ability to complain at leisure on this very board.

The book is shipping. My copy is at the post office. Yours will be too. Happy holidays!

Excuse me? Multiple ppl have said they haven't responded to customer inquiries at all. Took everyone's money then dropped off the face of the Earth for months! Late with the product, and didn't bother to keep anyone up to date on a board they solicited funds from. I don't care who's behind it this, that's crappy service to put it kindly.

attempted my first direct contact at the start of this week to see if I had any shot of getting this for Christmas. no answer. guess I am getting closer to joining the perturbed camp. I agree there can be delays, etc. but now supposedly they have it in stock. so how about some customer service?

I see it both ways. I do agree, when people pay a lot of money for a book, some communication would ward off worried thinking that your book will never arrive.

On the other hand, I think we can all see that some of these niche outfits are not rich in money and resources and may need some latitude.

I ordered the book very early on, on the first day it was orderable.

But, I live in the UK, so I can instantly add 5 days on top of the time it takes for US customers to get their copies. I'm just monitoring for the first UK people to say, "Yeah, it's arrived."

As for correspondence: no, I never had anything either except for the order confirmation way back in July. I guess either that means they haven't got round to shipping mine yet, which would be a little bit disappointing since it was a day one order. (There's nothing in my Spam folders.)

But, we've waited 35 years. A few more days won't hurt. I'm having faith.

Cheers

By the way, as it is a text-only book, has anyone considered making a digital version for sale to Kindles and the like?

(Forgive me if that was asked already.)

I'm just thinking this might be a way to get more return on the investment without all the printing and postage costs. I'd certainly buy a Kindle copy as well as my hard copy. I often do for books where I want something on my shelf but also want to be able to read on my travels.

Cheers

I received an email from Creature Features on December 11th stating that my July 19th order is completed, and sent via flat rate. I live in New York City, so I should get it any day now, but considering the mail delivery guy I have, it could take another week during the Christmas rush. With that said, I would gladly have paid extra for tracking.

My only problem with this logic is that even when ordering something from just any old yayhoo on eBay, the feedback option eBay provides ranks "Did you receive prompt and courteous communications from the seller?" I don't care how podunk Creature Features is as an operation, it's not an unrealistic or unreasonable expectation that the company occasionally send out basic status updates, especially when this item has been delayed for nearly half a year. As a paying customer, I have the minimum right to know what's going on with my investment at least once or twice in a five-month stretch. Despite the hostile accusations of a couple of people in this thread, this is no targeted slight on Lukas Kendall or Neil Preston Jones, or a lack of recognition of their contributions to my personal fandom. It's a slight on Creature Features' customer service standards and, this far down the line, I'm entitled to it, whether that company has a staff of 1,000 or only one.

Just want to second this. I would even be willing to pay the paperback price for this as an ebook.

No matter how much you italicize, your timeline is off. From the announcement at TrekMovie: "'Return to Tomorrow' will ship in October." http://trekmovie.com/2014/07/18/first-look-return-to-tomorrow-book-on-making-of-star-trek-tmp-coming-this-fall/

It started shipping at the beginning of December. They were off by about a month. It happens. Considering it was announced in the 80s, they got the target release pretty close this time.

A fair point (and I appreciate the reminder), but also a slightly disingenuous one. October to December is a two month gap, not a single month one. In any case, I maintain that the utter dearth of status updates from Creature Features in that span of time is embarrassing, amateur, indefensible and disrespectful to its customers. We're talking about the absolute minimum standard of quality customer service here--the absolute bare minimum--and CF is unwilling to step up to that low bar.

October to December is a two month gap, not a single month one.

Since no date was set in October, that left the entire month open. The difference between the end of October and the date actual shipments started was was barely over a month (and far fewer than the alleged six) and the book is shipping and people are getting their copies.

And while I didn't get a signed copy, I think it's cool that Preston signed the book on December 7, making the slight delay worth it.

The absolute minimum of customer service is that you receive what you pay for. So as long as you get the book, Bob's your uncle.

And, umm, the end of October to the beginning of December is 5 weeks. Paraphrasing the immortal words of the Bard Neil Simon, "5 weeks does not two months make!"

And yet, five weeks or two months* after the fact, I haven't received my order, soooooo...minimum customer service standard goes unmet.

* I haven't received any shipping notification so this "early December" reference I keep hearing amounts to nil to me.

My signed copy just arrived -- very well-packed, I might add! It looks fantastic, and I can't wait to dive in!

Hey, I instantly thought of you with the announcement today on the radio that tomorrow is Tuba Christmas up the road a ways in Pasco County. Wonder how many'll be there. I mean how many tubists are there in Florida for goshsakes?! smile

What Saul said!

Got the notice today -- item has shipped. I've had plenty to read during the waiting time, so no issues about that from me! If PNJ did it, I know (from having read his book about NIGHT OF THE HUNTER) it'll be damn well worth the wait.

I'm with ya, DW, am tracking m'order per USPS! And am just about done with Gleason bio per earlier response. From one Great One to another, no?

I do not know why everyone is complaining about how long it has taken for the book to finally ship. I've recently received a limited edition, signed science fiction novel from Subterranean Press that took five months from my order to my hands and I was very pleased and excited about how beautiful the book came out. I then ordered another book from them. So, if a small press needs to print outside of the USA due to cost considerations, give them some slack, or don't buy from them.

And, oh my God, I don't know why so many people are missing the point here! It's not that the book has been delayed. Heck, I'm still waiting on Warner Bros. to fulfill my Amazon order of the Blu-ray of VANILLA SKY, which was originally announced in 2013 and now is expected to come out May of 2015! How epic of a delay is that? But poop happens, I get it. What we're complaining about is the wholesale deficit of communication from Creature Features to its customers regarding notice of delay, explanation of the cause for the delay and/or projection for a revised shipping date. It's what we perceive as a flippant, dismissive quality on the part of CF, a tone of "Whatever. Screw 'em. They'll figure it out on their own." And certain shills here can accuse us of being whiners all they want but I darn well know if they'd ordered something off eBay and five weeks or more had gone by without so much as an estimated shipping notice from the seller, they would not be content with it.

I know what you're saying, Filmmaker.

You can check this thread and see I've also been slavishly praiseful of PNJ, LK and all of that. But my problem from the outset, and that which I think some of our friends don't get, is that when you purchase something from a retailer and have a question, you should be able to contact the seller. My story: When I pre-ordered PNJ's book, I stupidly ordered other, in-stock stuff - which has ALWAYS been available for shipping. This merchandise was a gift and I instantly regretted that I tangled it up with a pre-order, so all I wanted to do is make contact with CF just to see if I could they ship the rest of my order separately, at my expense.

Voice mail and emails all went unanswered. Paypal was charged for everything, but no reply for months.

I've now received an email stating my complete order is shipping, but of course I had to come up with a different gift at the time. I don't even blame CF for bundling the order together and holding it, it's the lack of response when I tried to contact them repeatedly.

As they say, this is a first-world problem, but like you said, even when you spend money with an individual on ebay you are accustomed to the ability to communicate with the seller. In conclusion, I can't stress enough how delighted I am with the coming book and understanding of the delay. This is not large scale publishing and we get it. It's the cash transaction that was very frustrating.

I look forward to my stuff and wish you all a happy Holiday Season!
