Weird - probably soon. Funny thing, just received a newsletter from Sacred Bones with this plastered all over it...

I prefer the original MONO opening theme without the disco beat and synth overlays of future versions.

I might just bite the bullet and order directly from his website.

Waking up and reading this announcement has made my day.

Yeah me too. Much more unsettling. I wish we could get a new release of the original score to coincide with this.

Actually the 40th Anniversary vinal edition has the original soundtrack taken from the original MONO music stems.

Didn't they release the mono version on vinyl last year or something? I can't keep track.

I pre-ordered the first release from Sacred Bones because it wasn't showing up on Amazon. The release date came and went and my order still hadn't shipped. Eventually it showed up on Amazon and I ordered it from there and cancelled the Sacred Bones order.

Amazon currently only shows the Vinyl and MP3 versions but I am wondering if the CD will end up there as well as the standard version did.

I ordered from Sacred Bones for the original release but it took so long to arrive, I would've been better off ordering from Amazon.

The Death waltz vinyl album released last year is the real transfer from the music stem of the movie, but while it contains the complete original 1978 score (the filmmix), the sound is extremely thin, virtually no bass at all - a huge disappointment!

Soundwise, the isolated mono track on the old laserdisc is far superior to this vinyl release and I really don't understand why?

Alan Howarth told me last year that the original 16 track would be with Carpenter if it still is around, but that he may still have the digital transfer from it on an old drive somewhere. Now, if we could encourage some record label out there to hire someone to re-create the filmmix using the original 16 track mastertape....that'd would be something! (wishful thinking I know)

Alan made use of the original 16 track when he put together the original LP back in 1982/83 and he made new mixes/edits for most of the cues with no reference to the filmmix. There was no overdubs though, the bass thumping on the main theme was on the original 16 track as a ‘click’ track to keep the beat and he decided to use it in the new mix.

I was sure that Varese would have put out a 40th Anniversary Edition of the original soundtrack last year. It seemed like a no-brainer.

I'm glad I waited *coughprocrastinatedcough* on the OST. Hopefully the CD makes its way to Amazon before release.

That's what I thought, but I just found another listing for it and it has a different ASIN number. I have no idea what I bought, other than it was a pre-order for a Sacred Bones release of HALLOWEEN.

We'll find out what it is on Friday, I guess...
