TO MALEFICIO- I HAVE NEVER HEARD ANYTHING ON THE TOP 40 LIKE 95% OF ALL GEORGES DELERUE MUSIC[which would come into the hundreds] so film music will always be cool to me.

I felt Alan's scores to the first Cap and The Avengers were middle of the road Silvestri at best. Thus far NO Marvel film has had a fantastic super hero theme in my opinion. The only thing that comes close is Tyler's end titles for Iron Man 3.

I completely agree! I know so many lament the loss of whatever Captain America's theme was, but it was so unmemorable to me, I couldn't hum it to you now despite seeing both of the those movies and hearing both scores. The "Iron Man 3" titles actually made me leave the theater humming the theme!

Unfortunately, that's 3 for 3 on reviews from people I tend to agree with all saying how horrible this score is. I usually don't questions picking up MCU film soundtracks - it's where my love of soundtracks and nerd mesh - but this time, I'll definitely be seeing the film to determine if I want the music. A shame, too - While Cap's theme didn't have to be replaced, I was hoping it would at least be replaced with something memorable.

Sounds like something that at best works within the film, while not being a great musical experience separately. It happens... same as some albums being great on their own while the films are terrible. I don't mind crossing this off my list, I need to be more selective anyways.

After reading the review, I couldn't help but crack a smile at the obligatory concluding sentence:

"Buy the Captain America: The Winter Soldier soundtrack from the Movie Music UK Store"

big grin

I would say Spider-Man and Captain America have have had the best music out of Marvel's films. The first Thor is also pretty good.

"Both “The Winter Soldier” and “The Causeway” contain what sounds like a processed scream as part of the electronic sound mix, and which appears to be an attempt at a leitmotif for the Winter Soldier character himself; when I first heard it I had to stop and check that it wasn’t my own screams I could hear over my headphones." - Jon Broxton

Fantastic work.

For those on Facebook this is what Hans Zimmer has to say:

"I haven't seen or heard the movie yet. But this much venom and provocation makes me think it's the next "Rite of Spring"! Now I'm geniality excited!"

He's geniality excited?

I can imagine he's genuinely excited. Or even genitally excited. (Hope not.) But geniality excited? That doesn't mean anything.

I'm just going to go ahead and be snotty, because that's the reigning tone on this thread.

People who are pooh-poohing everything recent except the Iron Man 3 end credits are just letting us know that they like old-fashioned scoring. Well, duh indeed.

To my ears, those end credits are just as middling as all the rest of these scores - derivative, tired, by-the-numbers. Just a different flavor, and one more appealing to this infinitesimally small cohort.

And yes, perfectly workable for the film. Just like all the rest of these scores work just fine in their films.

Which is the ONLY reason for movie music, no matter how much WE like to listen to the scores apart from the movies.

Guess he didn't use spell check.

As a Stravinsky fan, that might be a stretch; but maybe he's talking more in terms of the riot it provoked.

I guess it depends on how you describe "old fashioned."

Many of my favorite scores are not what I'd call old fashioned. I don't need an orchestra, or grand melodies, or leitmotifs, or any of that (though I like those, too). What I do need is some organizing principle, some technique or instrumentation or idea or something to latch onto.

Basically, something to distinguish music from mere sound.

Now I haven't even heard this new "Captain America" score, so I have no idea whether it has anything for me. I'm talking in general.

About the scores being written to serve the film, to borrow your phrase, "Well, duh indeed." But I don't know that I'd say that all of these scores serve their films well, or well enough. Just my opinion.

So far I'm not digging it. I'll see what I think of it in the movie. I'm just not hearing any Steve in this score.

As far as Marvel Studios movies go my favorites are Thor, Thor 2, Captain America. Iron Man 3 and The Avengers were alright.

As for Jackman, I loved Wreck it Ralph and X-Men First Class.
