has anyone received 'GUNFIGHT' yet? please post any comments on what you think of the music. also it was mentioned that 'NIGHT PASSAGE' is not a long score. why not pair it with another tiomkin score (eg.TENSION AT TABLE ROCK) to fill in the rest of any recording? this is only premised by the hope that these scores can be located in the studio vaults.

I received my copy Saturday and enjoyed hearing it (two or three times). Most of the score is based on different parts of the theme song, but done in a way that is always fresh and interesting. The sound is very good and the liner notes by Frank DeWald are comprehensive. If you like Tiomkin's music no accolade should be necessary as an encouragement to buy this album. I can't wait for the film's Blu-ray release in March.

Shortly before getting this CD, I watched the film again (from an HD TV broadcast) for the first time in many years and found it considerably better than I had remembered. The episodic nature of the film does tend to have a negative effect on the pacing, which is rather slow but Tiomkin’s marvellous ballad, which acts as a linking device for the several story strands, helps give the film cohesion.

It’s certainly one of Tiomkin’s finest and most enjoyable of scores in which his thematic material goes through a remarkable range of variations, without sounding at all repetitious. I enjoyed the CD hugely. Although Tiomkin is known for his heavy orchestration it’s often the quieter cues which impress, such as the melancholy tone of “The Sad Parting”. It’s a score in which the music heavily emphasises the on-screen action and so it’s extremely useful to have Frank K DeWald's detailed track by track analysis, supplied within a very handsome booklet. A very impressive release all round.
