Jonathan: All I can say to that is: I have to blame myself if I have missed this box.

I take it you didn't miss out. Because you say "if". Or you didn't want it. I don't understand the point of your post. To pour salt in the wounds of people who did miss out?

Anyway, in regards to blaming you... that sounds good to me. I'll blame YOU too.

Please, STOP whining. You missed it: so did a lot of other people (like me). Besides, Lukas didn't promise or swear to make 2000. That was just the plan. When he decided NOT to print all 2000 copies, he put out a notice on FSM for everyone to read. Plans change, and blaming the man who did everything he could to make sure no one missed out is the wrong plan.

Well - teeeeccchnically speaking, though...

I think you should stop whining about my reasonable frustration about having believed Lukas when he said they would be pressing the last 500 copies. I understand Lukas' blog post. It all sounds totally reasonable, except when he said, "I seemed to change my mind". Sounds to me like he actually did change his mind. Otherwise he'd never have said they were going to manufacture the last 500. He'd have said "no" or that it was under consideration (and that they might not).

When did Lukas say he would print the last 500 boxes? That was something I wasn't aware of, so I apologize for not knowing all the facts before posting.

Well, w-dervish, that's the reason of my post above. I quoted what Lukas said and he did say "when needed". Obviously, the need wasn't there anymore (reasons see my post above).
Only now people appear out of nowhere complaining about having missed the set. Well, I am sorry too, but I can't do anything about it.

And in case you do not understand my post above, I will rephrase it for ya:
You have to blame yourself that you have missed this box (and you've gotta live with that).

Jonathan: in case you do not understand my post above, I will rephrase it for ya: You have to blame yourself that you have missed this box (and you've gotta live with that).

Rephrase (and use BOLD) all you like, I'm not going to take your advice. Sorry if don't like it... but you're going to have to live with it (me not blaming myself). "When needed" means (to me) when the stock they had ran out. I took that to mean the last 500 were GOING to be manufactured. Otherwise he should have said "if demand warrants" or similar language. And WHY would I "appear out of nowhere" to complain about missing it BEFORE it sold out??? Of course you can't do anything about it. I never suggested that you could. You could stop responding and we could let this drop. What's done is done. I've still got two orders pending with retail outlets in England (although they will probably be cancelled).

To answer Giacchino-fan's question (and NOT to throw this in Lukas' face), Lukas said (concerning the rozsa box)... "We have made 1,500 box sets and have 89 in stock; we have parts to make another 500 and will do so when needed" (date: 1/12/2012).

Rozsa is one of my favorites, like many of you. I don't know of a note the man has put to paper that I didn't like. I'd really love to have added this set to my collection, but it's been out of my budget for a while. It sat in my Screen Archives wish list, collecting digital dust. When the end came, it was simply not in the cards of my budgetary abilities, but I'd long ago resolved myself to the fact that there was a very good chance I wouldn't be adding this box to my collection soon. So when they sold out, there was a pang of sadness, but I needed to prioritize, and thems the breaks. As has been stated before, we've all had years to make a decision, grouching about it now seems a bit foolish.

That being said, the possibility of further units being produced is certainly tantalizing. In a couple months I'll be in better straits, and should Lukas decide to reinstate production, and boxes are available at that time, I resolve to pick one up. (But if it were to happen *tomorrow*, it would still be out of reach and my life will be just fine. There's always smeebay!)

Dammit, if only it wasn't emerald green.... (it's soooo priddy, I must have eeeet!)

Yeah, things have obviously changed over the years. Limited Edition used to be what the release announcements and packaging stated, but now you just buy it for the music you want, becuase who knows how many are really going to be made or how long it is going to be around. I think consumers took it hard when Lukas fessed up about over pressing certain releases. I know I slowed down purchases especially FSM releases after that, becuase we knew that they would around longer (plus it did not help when SAE was selling a Intrada sold out release (24 hours) for 4x the price the next day). The LOGAN'S RUN overage was ridiculous and there are still copies and people can not understand why this title has not sold out. Kritzerland releases 1000 copies and they usually sell out in days, then you have BSX who releases 1000 copies and they are around for months? Intrada was sick of the 24 hour sell outs on certain titles, so they changed their release methods and I thought that would actually be hurting them, but now we have a a time period before they say that something is going out of print, then everyone panics. They get their money, they just have to sit on the titles a little longer. I have given up entirely on limited releases, the term just induces panic. In the past 3 months I have bought more regular, unlimited older releases than I have in the past 4 years, why? I can buy them anytime and they do not sell out fast. I have even gone back to buying LPs! Re-releases of releases is getting very old, so what if it has a few more minutes, how many copies of TORA! TORA! TORA! do we really need?

But, it all boils down to if you want something, buy it when it comes out, if it sells out before you did get it, oh well, we do not want to hear about it. I do think that Lukas did sort of blow it with saying "will do so when needed" one month and then saying done the next with the MR set. Yes, I read the blog.

I wish I hadn't written that. Sorry. At the time (even six weeks ago) it looked like we would be able to make a smooth transition from the Rhino/Turner sublicense to a Warner Bros. license, but for reasons outside everyone's control that's not the case. Six weeks ago, I didn't want to spill the beans about all this licensing hubbub, and I rather hoped (against my own interest) that the sales would remain slow enough that the 89 or so we had would not disappear. But maybe if w-dervish could accept my apology and stop busting my nuts we could move on please?

"Very good point! I'm glad I'm not the only one that remembers that."- Advise & Consent

After that I no longer purchase from SAE, if there is a FSM title I want I get it some place else. It is things like this that people never forget and most people just shrug their shoulders and say, "Oh, well that is part of the business, accept their apology and move on." I also no longer purchase from BSX (it has been over 5 years) since they like to hold sold out releases (recently 1941) captive to sell their releases that are not selling! I have never used the sales that FSM/SAE has had, becuase most of the free CDs they offer I already have or I am not interested in, plus you have to go through SAE for the deal.

I mostly don't use SAE because of the sucky shipping price (looking, it's been three years, and it was an FSM sale....the time before that a year earlier, which was also partly a promotion), but as with the above poster, such behavior really turns me off. It's one thing to sell a single copy of rare stuff for high, it's another to deliberately hold back stock to make more money.
Intrada and Moviemusic have never done this, nor has an of the labels that only sell their own CDs, AFAIK.

I have the Rózsa Box, maybe you should also blame me.

Limited editions are not meant to last forever, so I had to make some choices (not too difficult because Rózsa is my favorite composer) and I bought the set with some sacrifice when FSM put up the set for sale.

As soon as the Ben-Hur set was released, I figured that this would push the sales of the Rózsa Treasury. I am sorry to know that there were people who would like to have the set, not purchased and now is too late, but nobody can deny that there was an opportunity. It was pretty obvious that the CD set would soon be sold out and a new pressing of CDs could very well occur or not.

It's not Lukas fault. Sounds very childish to blame him.

I said I'd transfer my blame to Jonathan. If you want some blame I'm willing to oblige. From now on when I remember this experience I'll curse the names of Jonathan and Dr. Lao. These two jerks are responsible for my collection being incomplete and shall never be forgiven. I will carry a great anger in my heart toward them until my dying day.

SAE definitely has limited shipping options, I don't typically use them either, unless I think something might sell out, or I simply don't want to wait for it to get to the other retailers- but with SAE, one thing you know for sure is that you are going to get your product as fast as possible.

I don't know why they don't offer the lower cost Media Mail option for those (domestically) who aren't in a hurry to receive their product, but that is the decision that they have made.

What I like about MovieMusic, in addition to the amazing customer service, is that you have OPTIONS - the inexpensive, slow, Media Mail shipping method or you can expedite it if you're in a hurry.

With SAE, for whatever reason, you are stuck with paying for Priority Mail rates. But clearly they are doing just fine, and people have other lower cost options, so who cares?

Aside from Craig Spalding, Lucas has been the leader in bringing us our favorite music.
I have and all always will hold him in the highest esteem.
I can see how hard it must have been to work so hard for such a small financial reward.

With that said, I'm still annoyed that I would have had to buy this Treasury to get one recording that I wanted a lot, "The Power". Especially since I had purchased an inferior version (though it was the only game in town, at the time) from FSM.

Miklós Rózsa was a great composer and I have quite a few of his scores but I don't want every single one of them. I'm sure everyone here understands what I mean.

The reason that I keep harping on this is because it would probably sell reasonably well on it's own.

Regardless, thank you Lucas. We all love you.

found it NEW IN STOCK on an independent British record retailer's site, at normal price. It's sold out at source yes, but some third party non-speculative non pound/dollar-signs-in-their-eyes retailers may have it still. If you want it and are fortunate to be able to buy, search NOW. Stop reading this. NOW.
