Kong Arrived! First listen is fantastic. When this film first came out in 1976 I was a huge Barry fan from the Bond soundtracks. I recall that I left the movie thinking two things. 1- Jessica Lange is one actress that will fail...I was wrong. 2- I have to go back to this movie the next day because the soundtrack was so good.
I was never a fan of the original soundtrack cd because it made me think I was wrong about the soundtrack low those many years ago. this new presentation brings it all back...glorious.
My copy just arrived today and I am going through my first listen as I am writing this. One thing this new release reminds you of is that this score is all about emotion. And it is that emotional ride that makes this in my book the great Barry score of all time. Why he was never nominated for an Oscar is something you will be asking yourself once you've listened to the first disc containing for the first time many cues never available. The result is a completely new and different emotional experience the original soundtrack release was never able to offer because of those missing cues. And while I understand the nostalgic connection with the original album release (which is available on the 2nd disc), you will never go back to it once you've heard the first disc all the way through. Night and day folks - night and day difference between these two releases. HAIL TO THE KING!
Isn't anybody going to send the cd track names to Gracenote? No? Fine. I'll do it myself.
I thought I did it on Thursday night. When I transferred the CD into iTunes the track names weren't available, so I typed them all in and submitted everything. Computer told me data had been submitted. Guess not.

Yeah I think something's up with Gracenote as regards "Kong".
I submitted the track names too, extremely carefully at that. Plus I proofread each before sending as well (No "Goldsmiht"'s will ever be entered by me! he he he)
And for the genre, when it's an actual score and not a "Song Score" I always use the term "Film Music". Anyhow, never seemed to go through. I happened to pop the same disc in my work computer the next day, and there was no info. available.
Well, at least everyone who chooses to add the CD to their iTunes gets to customize their Kong tracknames.

For genre, what's wrong with using "Soundtrack"? I mean, that's really what it is and it's an established label on which we can all agree and also search by in iTunes.
