I am glad I wasn't the only one who thought the recording didn't sound to good. Maybe it is the YouTube quality. It just isn't very spacious, and sounds like the volume was to high during mastering. Maybe the CD will sound A LOT better. The Iron Man 3 score does sound like a typical Brian Tyler score which isn't a bad thing in my book. I think the modern orchestral sound of Brian Tyler is a good fit for Iron Man.
Damn I was hoping the RPO was not going to be wasted. Sadly Tyler has done what he did with War - engaged a major London Orchestra and turned in a rock score. Sounds like Steve Jablonsky.

They aren't wasted! They play an important part in the score along with the added guitars, electronics and percussion.
Tyler has what I refer to as a new orchestral sound, but he does write themes and uses melody much more often than Jablonski and many others do. Dragonball Evolution, Expendables 1 and 2, as well as Transformers Prime are wonderful Tyler action efforts and Iron Man 3 is A LOT like them. The Tyler sound is a nice fit for Tony Stark and Iron Man IMHO. Iron Man 3 isn't a groundbreaking effort and it isn't old school either, but I like it. I am sure Tyler gave them what they wanted. I wish Tyler had been able to compose for the first two Iron Man films.
I did enjoy this score far better than the first two. It feels like Tyler approached it as a sequel to The Avengers (in terms of overall sound), rather than Iron Man 2. There is some throwbacks to Debney's style, like the choir usage and instrumentation in parts.
I do like how he minimized the electric guitar and let the orchestra go through its paces. Action music sounds really good.
Personally, I don't think the London Philharmonic was wasted on this score. It could be better, but it's good enough for me.
The main theme of the scores posted a few pages before as well as Ironman 3 all sound derivative of the Cutthroat Island Main Theme, which is annoying.
I like the sound of that score track #1. I can hear some promising hooks from which the comoser can draw later in the work. MUCH better than Iron Man 2; to me that one was just filler that matched the lesser quality of the movie itself. Also stronger than Iron Man 1.
Reminds me of the vibe for The Avengers (thumbs up for that direction).
The theme is great! Just played it 3 times in a row (something I rarely do with all the music I get)... so I'm actually excited to hear the whole score now

With this much guitar, electronics, and percussion, I don't think that it would matter if it was the RPO or a lesser known orchestra. The main reason to hire the RPO or LPO is when you are writing complex orchestral material that a lesser orchestra could not competently perform accurately. I don't hear anything like that with this score.

Rather gutted that the end credits are not on the album....i sat through all of the... i don't know could have been 10 mins or more of the credits just listening to the music and it really was a great piece......this would have really rounded off the album perfectly......
