ELMER BERNSTEIN was born on APRIL 4, 1922 in NEW,YORK CITY.ELMER has been one of the more popular film composers in cinema history. He scored over 180 feature length films as well as a good chunk of documentaries and TV shows,Here are some of his better known efforts-THE TEN COMMANDMENTS,THE BUCCANEER,THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN,TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD,THE GREAT ESCAPE,TRUE GRIT,THE SHOOTIST, ANIMAL HOUSE, AIRPLANE, TRADING PLACES, GHOSTBUSTERS, ETC ETC ETC.At one time the media would often referred to him as the east side BERNSTEIN since on the west side of Manhattan in New York was Lincoln center where LEONARD BERNSTEIN , the famous classical musician would perform. Elmer moved up pretty fast after his blockbuster effort THE TEN COMMANDMENTS fame and even those who were not particularly interested in film music would notice the score on that effort? His most famous music was the score for THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, a smash of a movie , timeless to say the least. The theme became popular not just from the film but later on when it became THE Marlboro man cigarette theme on TV in the later 60's.After 2 decades of doing many big efforts of different genres[westerns , war , epic, action etc] he took an interesting shift at the end of the 70's, Suddenly doing film scores for films many big time film composers don't care to add to there resume, silly comedies. In his twilight of his career he pretty much return to what he did before, subtle drama's and a few bigger projects.Elmer died on AUGUST 18, 2004 AT THE AGE OF 82.How fitting hearing the news on a news radio station in New York WINS, in the background THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN THEME was being played, I knew even before the newsman spoke ELMER was gone.

MONTY NORMAN was born on APRIL 4, 1928 in LONDON, ENGLAND-He scored a few films in the 60's -CALL ME BWANA, 2 FACES OF DR JEKYLL,EXPRESSO BONGO ETC, but sadly is best remembered for his music for the JAMES BOND FIRST MOVIE DR NO in which for years there has been conflicting opinions on who actually composed the classic JAMES BOND THEME, which has became a standard for that gigantic successful series. John Barry claim's it's his, Monty Norman took him to court and claims it's his. The courts sided with Monty and call me a bit naïve but I just find it hard a man like JOHN BARRY would lie and defend something he knew didn't really belong to him. But what do we know on such matters?. Have your own opinions. Monty is currently 86 and obviously has been reaping the rewards from that theme for years.Sorry. I won't put his name on top.

Di Pasquale came to my attention in the 70's I think when he was often pairing up with David Shire.

They did quite a nice memorable theme for a short lived tv series called Three for the Road, starring Alex Rocco. That showed up here in the UK in the teatime kids slot (4.45pm).

Also they worked on the score for Fast Break, which Motown put out on an LP and cassette. That was rather good too - disco flavoured in parts and a couple of decent songs. I've still got the cassette here somewhere.

I think I did see Di Pasquale's name pop up on his own on some tv scores.

MR WEBB'S main theme from THE GODSEND is one of my favorites. It has the vibe of a typically great majestic movie theme in style. The type that got me liking film music. By the way the film is also a solid underrated small film.
