I think Mr. Townson did a great job and I'm proud of him for releasing this baby. I have not yet read the liner notes, but since he was close friends with Jerry I bet they are well written and informative.

Let's say thanks instead of saying something elsesmile Keep in mind everyone, ALL of these people have feelings as well. I tend to write stuff on here as if the person was in front of me. Would you really say that TO him if he was in front of you? Probably not, so maybe have that rule of thumb in the future so we can have a more happy forum on the ole FSM!

All orders HAVE been shipped by the way and I hope you all enjoy the release. If you haven't received it yet, please give us another week or so before inquiring.

smile

This is a gem of a score, and a wonderful release. It's Goldsmith all the way, and yet I have no other CD quite like it. If you haven't bought this CD, what exactly is your problem?

As for Townson, I'm pretty sure it's not actually possible to be a sycophant to a dead man.

It's a great score, but please stop with the wagging finger.

What a sensational release! Can't believe this is mono; sounds rich, vivid, terrific. Wow, how our Jerry and Johnny shelves are bursting with treasure we couldn't have ever hoped to see (hear)! Warmest thanks, Varese.

" If you haven't bought this CD, what exactly is your problem? "

Well, my problem is I never LIKED the score and I'm a huge Jerry Goldsmith fan.
I taped it off the telly years ago but it was a score I hardly ever returned to.
The theme somehow annoys me (I don't like that Third Man style much) and apart from The Hunt, it's just a Goldsmith soundtrack that I've never liked or warmed to.
Hope that helps smile

It's really not "Goldsmith all the way" - lets give credit where credit is due.

The liner notes should have included Morton Stevens for his contribution to this score - yes, it is mainly Goldsmith, but Mort still deserved his name in the notes - just sayin'...:-)

Of course there are people who don't like the score, but if you dismissed it after a single listen I'd urge you to try it one more time. You don't just get ONE incredible fox hunt cue, you get two, and if anything the second is even more exciting than the first. And there's also the wonderful way that fox hunt material is built into the introductory scenes in the film. I can understand not liking the main theme itself since there's a devil-may-care comedy aspect (a very dark one, but comic nonetheless) to it, but listening to Goldsmith in his prime layering all kinds of diabolical accents around that theme throughout the score is more than enough to keep my ear occupied.

Yes. Thank you for explaining exactly what your problem is.

Well, it wasn't really a problem until you mentioned it had to be!

I just like everybody to explain to me why they don't see the world exactly as I see it. It would just be so much easier if everybody agreed with me, guys!

Oh, and MRAUDIO, you're right, of course. It was a poor choice of words on my part.

No problem, Sir - it would be nice if Varese updated the booklet for MESSENGER and offered them as replacements if folks (like me) wanted one, but we know that won't happen - it's a nice idea, though...:-)

well, therapy is actually needed...
As expected, this release is still not sold out. Is Goldsmith fandom shrinking as much as Fielding's?

It appears to me that Goldsmith fans are, indeed, shrinking, wonder why? No way, a few years ago, would his "Red Pony" and ...........Messenger" still be around.

Any comment from the labels; MV, Varese, Intrada, Bruce etc.

I don't think it's a lack of interest. Money doesn't go as far as it used too. Paying bills and putting food on the table comes first.

I'm shocked that the Red Pony is still around also. What a wonderful score!

As for why things aren't selling out, I think that's also due to the huge number of releases that are coming out these days. Speaking personally, I have a want list that just seems to keep growing. Consequently, if a score comes out that I'm interested in but not sure I'll like, it gets put on the back burner. I have too many CDs that I bought based on board recommendations, found I didn't liked and now seemingly don't sell.

Coupled with the other post on the board about the costs associated with releasing scores, it's a minor miracle that our beloved labels keep putting out scores at all!

Still waiting for my Adrian Messenger to arrive and looking forwards to it!

Chris

I can promise you that this Goldsmith fan isn't shrinking. I wish I would, though. I could fit into my old pants.

Received mine today. Great sound! What a great score by the Maestro.

The BEAGLES AND FOX Hunt cue I could listen to on an endless loop for days! Would love to have seen him conduct this truly wonderful exuberant masterpiece cue! It is for me one of his greatest cues in his entire career! And the orchestrations are simply superb. The orchestra performance flawless!

Just Awesome!

Thanks Mr. Townson and Varese for such a great release!
