I've got $50 sitting here waiting to go to the FSM Legal Defense Fund. Tell me where to send it and I will.

This is rich -- FFShrine's "donations" form:

http://gh.ffshrine.org/donate.php

They want you to GIVE THEM MONEY so they can afford to host all their stolen music. Didn't Sarah say they don't HOST anything themselves?

Lukas

Lukas they need money to support all those posts with all those links. That is what she is hosting. All the visits, all the posts add up to bandwidth which must cost some serious cash.

The other thing to remember about people who post music is they are doing it not just because they can't afford it. The poster who buys the CDs most likely has these cyber friends, hi Babydoll!, and they like to be the big cheese and be the first to "share" this CD or that DVD. These people are all about status. The people who come and take the music figure it's there so they do it anyway. The people who host this crap need to be stopped or should have the conscience to tell others to stop.

Just because I can't afford something doesn't mean I take it anyway.

As I understand it, the donations pay for the forum bandwidth (ie, text) and for an archive of obscure music - mostly old Japanese videogame stuff, etc.

Yes. The problem with these people is that they feel some vacant need to share something first. Look I just shared this CD! Love ME!!!! Wheeeeeeeeee. (Sarcasm btw. I hate sharers, they hurt the very thing I love to collect).

I really hope that all labels can work together to shut them down because apparently there is stuff from Intrada, etc. floating around there as well !!!

But I am not surprised by this turn of events.
Several months ago I noticed that an unauthorized version of Transformers can be bought from market place sellers on Amazon.de.
So I contacted Amazon and explained the situation.
But they replied that according to their datas it is legit.
So I contacted WB.
And this item is STILL up - so is WB only very slow or do they just not care ???

But I am happy that Lukas and the mighty FSM board cares !!!

It's disgusting. As I said on other occasions, while I don't share some intransigent opinions against private copy sharing, I am totally against downloading or distributing soundtracks that are on print / on regular sell. But why this reaction now when this has been happening for years?. I've seen the entire Superman box for download just days after it was released, and the same with lots of other soundtracks, you don't even have to try very hard to find them. It's very sad, but it's not new.

I think (or at least I hope) that the people who is not morally concerned with distributing or downloading something that is currently on sale in it's original form, booklet and extras don't even belong to the potential market for these products in the first place and never would value them enough to, actually, buy the real thing.

I emailed Intrada a few months ago about that place sharing their music but I didn't get a reply back.

I've just stumbled onto this somewhat late.

I can't, alas, post my response since I don't have this 'confirmatory e-mail' yet. I've registered and will de-register once I've made my point. If I get a chance.

This is the problem with the internet ... no effective controls.

The strange entity who calls himself 'babydoll' (which tells you something, no? Not image-conscious, clearly) actually derides companies for making CDs too expensive, without a notion of the limited edition economics. They're peddling pseudo-egalitarian notions about 'art should be free'. There's a funny irony in this use of the word 'freedom' by people who, in any other area of activity would attack any infringement on 'free' enterprise and economic market strategy, and then subvert the market to KILL the very freedom they claim they champion.

It may be that FSM might need to go download-option in the future at some time. But of course, this sort of thing kills the golden egg.

This sort of site attracts the adolescents, and they see their activities more like playground solidarity and 'sharing' than adult business. It's the kids rebelling against Dad. The small niche companies aren't the culprits in any big multinational 'price-hiking' thing anyhow.

Give 'em hell.

Lukas -

I realize this is wishful thinking but it's always possible that some of these people might grow a conscience some time in the future. You probably don't remember this, but I once sent you an idea for a blog entry in which I would've discussed my "conversion" from downloader to paying collector. You said it was a good idea but wouldn't work (for obvious reasons).

It's true - I used to download music from all the file-sharing sites (nothing from FSM because I had no idea what FSM was at the time). But a few years ago, for one reason or another, I had a change of heart and said, "Dammit, I'm gonna start buying CDs now, even if I have to wait, and even if I have to get them on eBay if they go OOP." Maybe that's when I realized this was a serious hobby and more than just a passing fad.

I'm the proud owner of a Ron Jones boxset and I paid for it. smile

Don't stop what you're doing - there is much work to be done and plenty of film scores to be released!

P.S. You're Jewish!? I should've known - who else would use the word "nudniks" in a set of liner notes?

P.P.S. Roger and the Intrada gang: to echo another poster, please reconsider a McCarthy/Chattaway set. I'll buy one in a heartbeat!

P.P.P.S. To the folks at the other website:

I hate these little mightily entitled youngsters. And let me tell you if I found them with our stuff I would be all over them, as you might imagine. Our stuff doesn't seem to interest them, though, although on the list of downloads, despite their "agreement" with Varese, was A Gathering of Eagles. So much for agreements. I imagine they pull the VS stuff ONLY when they get a note from the lawyer.

They all think it's amusing because they have no souls and no conscience. But karma is the great leveler - and one of these fine days one of these peckerwoods is going to invent a game or produce something that costs them money and someone will do exactly what they're doing - and boy will they be the first to cry foul and yell bloody murder. And that day cannot come soon enough.

I genuinely hope you find a way to shut them down, Lukas.

In the mid-1990s, I would from time to time pick up a bootleg. One day, I read an article about bootlegs and how they hurt small companies distributing licensed releases. Lukas may have written it; I don't recall. The point being, up until that time the thought hadn't crossed my mind. But as a small business owner, I could relate. I stopped purchasing all unlicensed CDs. I had to wait 15 years to get my hands on "Black Sunday" despite boots being available. But I'm really glad I waited.

The good thing about making waves about FFShrine is that you may be able to convince more potential downloaders to think twice about what they're doing by making your case as a mom-and-pop operation. You're the small ice cream stand on the corner. I don't know much about flame wars, but I will say when I read that article years ago, I got it. I got the logic of it.

And I'd really like to keep buying new flavors at that ice cream store.

I swear, people seem to have nothing better to do than check this messgae board every few seconds don't they? 170+ posts in four hours?

I seriously can't even fathom ho0w anyone could think this is even ANY sort of special occurance. People pirate. It's hardly limited to that message board as to where to DL this set (though apparently they've since took the links down?) and to really get worked up over this specific occurrence over ANY of the other ones is pretty dumb.

But then humanity is dumb. I really wish I wasn't a part of it sometimes. Sometimes, I think I'm not.

My ears certainly seem to be different than everyone else's...

Hmmm...unless there's a coincidence, I recognize one of the FF posters' aliases as one from this board.

Putting on my lawyer hat, I am perfectly willing to donate any time needed to assist Lukas in shutting down sites like this FFS site. They are violating copyright laws, a certain studio takes dim view of such things as well.

A review of other threads on thatg board shows that they have a no VS posting policy among others (Howling Wolf, etc)

Lukas: I can offer financial help if you can sue those bastards!

The scale of this one just seems like the straw that broke the camel's back. In one fell swoop, an enormous 14-disc set fell to pirates. Not surprising, no, but audacious and outrageous nonetheless. True, the outrage should have been there before, but the line must be drawn somewhere, and I think we've found it.

I'd heard someone posted the complete HARRY POTTER 1 score there. Guess that brought all the eyes on the Shrine!

Well, I always suspected you were one of "them", anyway. Thanks for piping in with your support.
