I don't think in any universe I'd describe the first score as celebratory
Its a very "anthem" heavy score. Almost like Bill Conti in that it has a big fanfare for something particular and its used over and over. Giacchino uses his Kirk/Enterprise theme *a lot*.

Ideas ripped off from a dozen pre-existing ST stories, but brand new to ST non-fans? Check. Inspirational pep-talk from pseudo father figure? Check. Lots of jumping off things? Check. Disgruntled ex-employee looking for some payback? Check. Melodramatic, histrionic score using all available arrangement cliches? Check.

This will make tons of money.
Agreed. I'm really not looking forward to this. The creators lied about ST09, and if Cumberbatch turns out to be Khan I'm going to punch someone.
That said, Giacchino said just the other day that he composed some 100 min of music for this, so I'm not going to buy the soundtrack until I know for sure whether there is a 2-disc version coming.

A wise precaution at any time!
Just remember, that part of the reason we got a deluxe edition was that the original album was such a good seller for Varese!

Well, we can speculate that that may have been one of the reasons. But that doesn't make it necessarily so. I'm inclined to think the deluxe edition was motivated more by the fan demand for a expansion. Without that demand, any label would likely be content selling the basic edition.
Additionally, the labels know full well that if there are differences in the content of the tracks which are common to any two editions (remember the controversy about the choir?), then those same fans/enthusiasts will probably snatch up both. Thats such a common marketing ploy and, as we all know, certainly not limited to score albums.

To use the old phrase - "Money talks and bullshit walks."
Demand is nothing unless there is a wallet behind it. No label worth its survival is going to put out a product that everyone wants but theres no reason to pay for. The reason we got the expanded version is because the money paid to the original soundtrack *is* the demand.

I'm not really clear on your point. You're saying that Varese would somehow know of fan demand for an expansion even if they hadn't bought the original? I find that impossible to believe.
You know what CD Varese lost a bundle on? "Star Trek Nemesis." Cost a lot, sold a little. And we haven't seen that expanded yet, have we?

While I was typing my meandering response, you phrased it better!
